Is it me, or does Electronic Sight (track 3) on the new Electronic Eye release sound exactly like Bill Nelson? Right down to the sampled voices drifting in and out. If you dig this, I'd suggest getting Bill's "Chamber of Dreams" or any of his instrumental works, really. The bassline is a dead ringer, as is the drippy synth line. Someone tell me I'm not crazy! i haven't heard the new EE stuff, but imho bill nelson is far too ignored by ambient listeners. In fact, i don't have the discs in front of me to be specific, but i have heard some of his work from the eighties which i could swear have been ripped off by some modern musicians. also, has anyone noticed how much "#19" by Aphex Twin (found on Excursions in Ambience 3 and the UK vinyl version of SAW II) sounds alot like the fourth or fifth track on Eno's "Apollo" disc? unfortunately i don't have the apollo disc here either (i'm on vacation :) but i think if you are familiar with the tracks you'll see what i mean. Funny because of the kinds of things that it seems Eno and RDJ say about each other. Or maybe i'm just hearing things from another plane again...... - Dan transmission 23 - FTZ - edrone - clonor the other - morpheus ii The 8-Bit Collective/8-Bit Records * US/Finland mail: eightbit@vlad.bowker.com - rkn@phoenix.oulu.fi WorldWideWeb: http://ftp.luth.se/pub/misc2/kosmic/www/8bit.html KLF/FreeMusicFoundation: http://ftp.luth.se/pub/misc2/kosmic/www/

I just got Vapourspace's CD and wanted to know what you all thought. I find it a bit too beat-driven, but interesting stuff. I wish they hadn't put all the songs on one track.....that's annoying. Before we begin....could you please send me the answer to this in private mail? Who is fred white? Should i know this guy? Anyway...cool quote..... VAPOURSPACE... I liked it...I like the chaos...but it is also relaxed at times...the beats are balanced with segways that are not at all beat driven... wait...we are talking about "themes" right...theres not a new one is there...geez i hope not cause then everyone will make fun of me again... but i dont guess there needs to be a reason for that... anyway.... I, too, hated the fact that the disc was one solid track...for one thing it makes it a real pain in the butt to play on the air...but then i started getting the point from a musical standpoint... the point is that it is one piece...perhaps the one piece is divided into individual tracks...but it is meant as is most music...to stand as one work... i looked at it like i look at art... it is rare to say that this painting would be better if it were divided into 12 segments instead of being all together like this...i saw what he was trying to say as far as art was concerned... so we are forced to recognize it as an entire composition...there is no skipping straight to that one song we like best...we must accept the entire work as one work... i think its cool... then again it may be just that my cd played has about had it and it wont skip anywhere... So the progression was intact from the gravitational arc single...with all the tracks running into each other...and the full length did the same... now what baffles me is why the latest single is separated mixes instead of a continuous mix... did anyone ever find anything oput about any european releases of 'vista humana'? theres my opinion... later, Jasonosaj. Well, here is my response..... Sean Smith ssmith@unf6.cis.unf.edu "It's not fluff Dana, Fred is just an ass." -Brian Fullford "A few may get through the gate in time." -William Burroughs "The belief or unconcious convinction that all propositions are of the subject-predicate form - in other words, that every fact consists of some thing having some quality - has rendered most philosophers incapable of giving any account of the world of science and daily life." -Bertrand Russell

Fred is my best friend (note the new above quote). He's a "hole-puncher" which is his word for irrational skeptic. Anyway, I don't care who knows, since he won't read this list...he hates my taste in music.

But, what if we, as scholars possibly, wanted to look at the painting in segments? I just feel, while the music SHOULD be played in that order, it makes extracting a single nearly impossible. Besides, I don't often know where one song begins and the other ends. Individual track numbers would make it easier, AND I would still listen to it in it's proper order. Prince did it on Lovesexy and I haven't bought one of his albums since. SMILE!
