Sunday, May 15th, 1994 at 3:12pm hi there - on this past thursday or friday, fluid (i think) posted some reviews of some new idm selections, among which was "the stone" by BABBLE (aka THE THOMPSON TWINS). i read the review late at night while intoxicated, and due to the tasty description that fluid provided, i went out the next morning and found a copy languishing in the bins at streetside records. the reason that i am writing this is to let all idm'ers know that fluid is absolutely right and this album is SO BEAUTIFUL!!! it is just gorgeous, awash in oceans of reverb and extremely lush production. it's somewhat in the same vein as will orbit's SC3, but more song/technopop oriented than orbit's. it's very dubby, spacey, lush, and has smooth technodubpop tunes, and it is a godsend for any cannabis afficionados out there. i am very selective in the songs that i record off of a disc in order to play in my car, and every single track on this album is getting recorded. a complete disc finally worth the cost!!! if you are into song-oriented electronic dub and you like things like one dove or will orbit or react 2 rhythm mixed with cannabis smoke, then this is a M UST-HAVE. i haven't heard such good pop tunes in a long time, and it's unprecedented to have them soaking in such liquidity and color... get it. i'll quit babbling now... BABBLE - "the stone" (reprise 9 45387-2) thanks, fluid... (or whomever) ______________________________________________________________________________ the capricorn top 5: 5. Sunday, May 22nd, 1994 at 11:19pm greetings from a lurker - i have been so moved by this album that i feel it is an obligation to mention it once again to a list that considers itself to be interested in intelligent dance music. i buy in excess of fifty discs a year, and this has to be one of the best discs that that i've bought in the last five years. one of the most consistently delicious that i've EVER bought, i'd venture... every song is essential. such ethereal waves of transcendent production intertwined with rich, lush, spectral hooks surfing the one-eyed dubgroove swells. very electronic and spacious. reverb from a primo lexicon or sony, obviously ddd, sublime wavestation, totally fresh drum sounds. this is the thompson twins with a new name, so expect pop sensibility. bpm generally around 100. anyone involved in cannabis and intelligent electronic dance music should get this for their collection. enjoy the bliss. ______________________________________________________________________________ the capricorn top 5: 5.
