Hello, In the British mag NME of 30 april is some nice info on Artificial Intelligence II! The following names have been announced: The Aphex Twin (as Polygon Window), Autechre, Speedy J, Higher Intelligence Agency, Seefeel, B12, Balil (=Black Dog Productions), Beaumont Hannant and Richard Kirk. I think it's a bit of a disappointment. On part 1, (almost) everything was by relatively unknown artists. I expected another original compilation this time. All the above artists have released _at least_ one album by themselves! OK this probably won't be a bad compilation, but i expected something else. Btw all artists contributed exclusive or rare tracks. On the same page is an ad of R&S records announcing the following records: (quote mode on) - Model 500 - Sonic Sunset - a brand new mini-album/2x12"/CD containing three mixes of Sonic Sunset plus Neptune and I Wanna Be There. - 69 - Lite Music - who said 69 was Carl Craig? Check for yourself on Lite Music 12". The follow-up to the already classic Sound On Sound, Out may 9 followed on may 16 by the remixes of Jam The Box 12"/CD. (quote mode off) R&S also signed mr. Derrick May recently. Seems they're into Detroit stuff at the moment. That's all for now. -- +-----------------------------------+ | Hans Veneman | | E-mail: veneman@tv99ad.hacktic.nl | | phone: +31(0)3200-35266 | +-----------------------------------+

Volume 8 has an interesting article on R&S that starts on page 127 (in the middle of the Sun Electric article). I don't know when Volume 8 came out, but I'll quote two paragraphs here. "If Detroit is techno's spiritual birthplace, then Belguim has become its nominated nursery where its' being nurtured, developed, and looked over by the sign of the black horse, which has come to represent a guarantee of excellence under the moniker of R&S Records. ... "We're finalising the contracts for Derrick May," confides R&S supremo Renaat, barely able to contain the excitement in his voice. "This is something that has been negotiated for years, ever since he made his first record, I have longed to have Derrick on R&S. We're all very excited about it here. He's going to go into the studio in January to start working on an album of completely fresh material." The article goes on, and states something about a collaboration between Billy Ray Martin and The Grid. Anyone tell me more about this? Andrew -- Andrew Bennett "Nothing in the known universe abennett@phoenix.aps.muohio.edu travels faster than a bad check."

I remember seeing this one in the stores about 6 months ago and lately it has resurfaced again in the same pink Apollo jacket, and also a CD Single that has a picture of something I forgot. When I listened to it I found it extremely irritating. I guess if you liked the mix of Persuasion that was on TEE, then you'd like this, but I find neither her voice nor her lyrics anything to be excited about. The music was very simple and drony a la FAX. It's called "Four Ambient Tales". I'd check out the new single by Squid on Apollo instead. Jonathan eabu751@orion.oac.uci.edu

[stuff about Renaat wetting his pants with excitement at signing Derrick May deleted]

Yes, that's true, but i think the situation now is different. A lot of the AI1-artists have been pretty succesful. I believe there must be lots of new interesting artists around. Still, AI2 will probably be a very good album. I talked to Richie Hawtin yesterday, and he mentioned he heard the new AI comp.. He panned it and mentioned that Warp might be dropping the project soon, because it's become such a pretentious and silly element in an increasingly snotty and elitist English scene.. The complaint is that the artist's heads are getting too big for their shoulders, really causing a bad vibe.. I don't think I'd mind it too much if Warp dropped the project, cause they were releasing perfectly wonderful stuff before AI that didn't have such a pretention about it.. ** ******** ********** ********** ******** **Born.Under.A.Rhyming.Planet. +8 Records, Chicago, Il.

I was hoping for new artists on ArtInt 2, not another comp of artists that many idmers are already familiar. 8080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808 0 Paul Rafanello Internet: 808STATE@DELPHI.COM 0 8080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808080808
