"Brilliant Box" is a trade name for a 2CD jewel box that's the same size as a normal 1CD case. (GPAD3, the orb's Ultraworld US reissue, etc.) -- Lazlo (lazlo@unm.edu)

Oof. Shoulda known this one. This is the correct answer. A nifty contraption really. I did the cover for a cd of an Indian musician here in Calif and we used the Brilliant Box. Only problem was, people didn't know it was a double cd, and were leery of buying a single for that much money. The markings on the case aren't very bold, and even though I had specifically put 'double cd' on the cover, we still had to throw a sticker on it. Related ObIDM q: The CND Psychotic Reactions/Give peace a dance 3 cd came in a similar package, but the disc tray opened from the opposite end (Brilliant Box opens from the spine). Anyone know what this one is called? I liked this one better. You should have wrapped an obi around the spine! It's worked in Japan for years, and is a really good way of getting promo copy onto a package without screwing up the artwork. I've actually seen a couple of US discs with these lately.

Urm...I just checked mine, and it's got "Brilliant Box" clearly stamped on the underside of the tray. -- Lazlo (lazlo@unm.edu)
