The theme of "From 0 to 1" recognizes:
1.. The space that exists between binary oppositions, which Pynchon
calls "the excluded middle".
2.. An emphasis on process over product. Although an end product is
oft important, it is a belief that "doing is learning" which informs
experimentation of any kind.
3.. The specific implications of (digital) technologies as overarching media
types.
This event is envisioned as a demonstration of popularly conceived (and
often misconstrued) multimedia environments. Truly, a 'mediated' experience!
In many contemporary humanities discourses, "multimedia" is conceived of as
a theoretical and technological outgrowth of postmodern society.
Or is it the other way around? It's hard to tell which way causality runs.
The inability to determine causality creates and informs this experience
and experiment. It is our goal to utilize prevalent themes in humanities
discourse and experiment with them to create a truly McLuhanesque
"wraparound" environment.
This event is composed of artwork rendered in six major media types: audio,
digital media, an academic think-space, print media, studio art and
installations, and video and film.
