I've seen the talk of the Harthouse-Tokyo connection thing. Maybe that explains the artist "Ongaku" -- which is a Japanese word that means somthing that I haven't figured out yet-- that is on the imported compilation "The Secret Life of Trance" by Rising High Productions, having been liscensed from Harthouse (the artist and song, which is another Japanese word, "mihon"). Does anyone know what these words mean? And is this another link in the Harthouse-Tokyo Connection?

Where did you see this "connection thing" being talked about? Anyone know Atom Heart's real name? Ongaku's "Mihon #1" is by Ata, Heiko (MSO) and Atom Heart. This can also be found on the "Techno Injection" compilation. What does "MSO" mean anyway? I saw another song on some other compilation which was by Atom Heart and two OTHER Japanese names (not Ata or Heiko), so either he's got a lot of Japanese friends, or he's making some sort of professional connections in the Far East with composers/artists/musicians. I'll remember the names next time I see the compilation. As for the words, 'mihon' means 'sample' or 'specimen,' but I think 'sample' is apropo for the context (electronic music). Their giving you a 'TASTE' of electronic bliss! :) I don't know what 'ongaku' means. Anyone notice that "Mihon" sounds similar to BDP's (Black Dog Productions') stuff? And it's odd that BDP has a song called "Otaku" which means 'home' in Japanese. Coincidence? --- Anyone know anything about Dennis P. Sarratou? He has arranged, produced, written, and/or co-produced a LOT of tracks on the "Trancesylvania" compilation. My favorite is Illuminatus' "Hope". He's a part of (in some way) Neurotrancer, 2 DEF DJs vs. Mr Freeze, In Vain, and Memorizer. Anyone have a history and/or discography on this guy? Also, Pete Namlook is on the compilation under names Escape (track "Escape to Mars," and I've seen/heard somewhere else "Escape to Neptune" which I'm sure is also by Escape, and it's an awesome track with a sample from Aliens saying, "Everybody online?"), and 4 Voice with "Music Hypnotizes" which is a PUMPING trance track!!! Hmm... I might disagree. BDP's stuff is more melodic than that Ongaku track. I always thought Ongaku was named after a certain Yellow Magic Orchestra song (I've seen it listed on the After Service compilation, which i've seen only on Jap. import so I haven't bought it). Also, to the best of my knowledge "otaku" refers to the subcultural happening of youths totally isolated from each other through computers, and dealing information (mostly trivia about pop stars, tv shows, anime etc...). The media in their usual sweeping, thoughtless categorical manner named the "movement" Otaku becuase "otaku" supposedly stands for the formal "You", implying that the technology creates a formal barrier to human communication. (Whatever.) Anyway, considering BDP's cyber pretensions, it would not at all surprise me they would be interested enough in this "otaku" thing to write a track about it... As I understand it, Frankfurt Tokyo Connection is the name used for Susumu Yakoto's releases on Harthouse records. I guess they were worried that most Westerners find Japanese names unmomorable.... I also have a 12" which Susumu Yakoto released under his own name on the Berlin label Space Teddy. Complelely unconnected, but on the discussion of Spicelab, and other Oliver Lieb releases, I just discovered that Airborn, by Mirage (on Eye-Q), one of my favourite records of '93 -- is also by Lieb. I didn't mean an official compilation entitled the "Connection" or anything, just that there seems to be a connection or some kind of link with Japanese stuff. This may be something to explore further. I know I am going to since I am interested in Japan and there language. I also have the Tranceslyvania compilation and it is the BEST trance compilation that I have heard lately. Like what was stated before: lots of Pete Namlook stuff and lots of D.P. Sarratou stuff. Also, as wasn't mentioned before, the guy behind spicelab: Oliver Lieb, is on the compilation under the pseudonym "Psilocybin" (sp?).
