Here we go....the top ten....(in order)
(here's hoping these were all released in 1999)
01- The Modernist: The Modernist Explosion! (Pop. Org.)
Why listen to anything else out of Cologne?
Jorg Burger just excels beyond the reach of the rest.
02- Drexciya: Neptune's Lair
They're back, with a fresh sound and the same old
aquatic outlook. Same killer tracks as always. Excellent!
03- Jochem Paap: Vbs-Mbnt-Pcs I&II
Putting a new face on ambient from one of the least likely
sources, FAX continues to do it.
04- Thomas Brinkmann: Ernst 12"s
What Burger is to Cologne, Brinkmann is to Berlin.
Especially have to love the samples and the crazy dance beats.
05- Dettinger: Intershop
The Cologne formula applied to easy listening is a
home run. Can't wait for more like this from Dettinger!
06- Scanner: Lauwarm Instrumentals
Covers the entire spectrum. One of the few producers
who can claim to pull off anything "experimental".
07- all SND releases
Click, click, thump, thump. Just works, but I hope
they don't fall into the "hear the unhearable" trap.
08- Pole: CD2
Not sure if this is 1999, but whatever, who knew dub
could sound this good? The crackling is overrated though.
09- Funckarma: Parts 1-3 12"s
Better than Autechre or Funkstorung seem capable of
being, these guys are doing it for the music.
10- Vote Robot: Versions
It just seems like the right pick to make. Hope they
repress both LP's on a CD so more people can get it.
Just want to add 1999 was an incredible year for music,
so many releases and lots of high-quality stuff. 2000 should
do even more damage to the wallet.
