hi mantrakid. prominent genre births *related to idm? grime? thats more of a geosocial classification than a genre though. overall though, i dont think any new genres have been 'birthed' so much as an increase in cross-genre pollination taking place -- apparantly, the emo kids are into noise these days, which is okay by me. it may be a cliche concept but i really think that the music scene in general is catching up to the realities of modern day distrubution channels and that sort of scales back the need for having different genres in some cases, as you dont really need to be able to sort things easily if there really aren't too many record stores left! as to whether or not someone who dosen't know what IDM is being able to classify it -- i think that's about as relevant as being able to say the word for 'rose' in french when you see a rose in france.. Hello all. First off I want to say that I had an incredible time this year at Decibel! Props to Sean and everyone who worked so hard to make this years Decibel an amazing experience for all of us! YES!!!!!! I also wanted to tell you all about Oscillate tonight (9-27) at Baltic Room. Local producer Matt Corwine recently signed to the u-Freqs label and is celebrating his record release with us at Oscillate. He will be playing a live set that will include tracks off of his record "No Scene". Also onboard tonight are local pranksters Jacob London, who will be playing a DJ set with all the playfullness that you would expect from those boys. And as if that weren't enough, our good friend Kris Moon will join us also with a bangin' live set of his signature techno trax the cover tonight is $5.00..... but well worth the price I assure you! Live visuals will be provided by the very talented Shannon Palmer Everything kicks off at 10p see you tonight! cheers............ richard james appears to create new genres everytime he releases originally, idm was a poor attempt to quantify his now classic works (which is also the origins of this list) i wonder if analord will spark a renewed interest in lush compos? guess someone will try to give it a name probably won't be as funny as ambient deathcore On 9/26/05, StaticBeats <stupidnametaken@yahoo.com> wrote:

Not sure about Analord sparking renewed interest. To look at it from a different angle - Amen Andrews did nothing to revive the jungle scene and it was just as timely. I did note however that Luke Vibert's latest album has a track titled "Analord" on it. Sounds very analordy (if such a thing exists) so perhaps it's an homage to his buddy Richard and the whole Analord scene. Not quite. Analord (the track) first appeared on the 95-99 12" on Planet Mu in 2000. It was released on CD for the first time this year. Well fellow IDM'ers, I have been hanging here for a while and I don't know what it "IDM" means or what it is, but I know it is something that gets me thinking, simple as that. Heres my latest offering, please let me know what you think. Critical feedback etc etc. Is this IDM? Does it matter? Should I give up? Is this pop? I have had mixed feedback and interest from a few labels, but I thought if I can get an honest opionion it would be here.... so here you go http://anechoic.8088.org/bitbin/Lost.mp3 also http://anechoic.8088.org/bitbin/days.mp3 Nice one -bit|bin www.bitbin.co.uk On 26 Sep 2005, at 23:11, you're going to be an elephant wrote: On 26 Sep 2005, at 21:41, darnistle wrote:

How can you be so sure about giving up? Have you never felt insecure about your own talent (I'm assuming you're also some sort of producer or composer or musician here? I've listened to both tracks, and altough I haven't found them to be totally amazing or extremely original, they've kept me interested enough to listen until the end and also gave me some ideas I will probably try in my own tunes. "Lost" is a lot more interesting than "days", IMO. I wouldn't give up if I were you, Matt, that's for sure, doesn't matter if you can call it IDM or not. Keep making music. I've been making noise with computers for about 10 years and I still don't know which genre do I "belong" to. This word "belong" is in my opinion one of the main things that leads artists into applying labels to their own music. It's the human need of belonging to some movement, genre, which implies, ways opf thinking, eating, dressing, hanging out, taking drugs, etc. I don't know If I'm right so I'm going to stop. -Jay Devoid -=[Rather Than Love, Than Money, Than Fame, Give Me Truth]=- On 9/27/05, Jong-Ilist Massive <meatsock@gmail.com> wrote:

this is the kind of music I feel happy producing/writing/creating/exploiting at the moment, its whats falling out of my head and I guess its something I do not control. Im just 'going with it' right now. Im not new to it but i was not sure about what I had to offer... more to the point.

I like where the _Lost_ track took me more than _days_ but I liked them both. I agree with Kenny, that your sound is on the right track. I don't mean to insult you at all by making the comparison but _Lost_ had that ambient backdrop reminiscent of BoC. -d On 9/26/05, mATT hODSON <matthew.hodson@tvu.ac.uk> wrote:

Never better stated than as below. After last night's final show of The Wire Adventures in Modern Music Festival, for instance, I know that Khanate is crap of the highest order that takes no musical talent whatsoever and Four Tet is just as good live as I expected. Khanate can be hit and miss live, but their albums are awesome. It has all the stripped down, depressing as fuck elements, of what I loved about early Swans records. And it's true, Four Tet has massively stepped up his game on the live front in the last few years. Jeff On 26-Sep-05, at 2:37 PM, Anthony Cary wrote:
