i couldn't fall asleep to that unless i was really tired. lots of great beats and interesting melodies. sleeping music for me is so-called "dark ambient"; steve roach, lull, lustmord, troum, yen pox, vidna obmana, svartsinn. some of it is electronic in creation although it doesn't always sound like it. lots of ghostly effects moving in waves like the ocean, or echoes with no original sound. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Do any of you listen to Lycia? Lycia's been my favorite falling-asleep music for years, especially "Ionia" and "The Burning Circle and Then Dust". Also the Cure's "Carnage Visors", Asche & Spencer's "Monster's Ball" soundtrack, and Vond's "Selvmord". sokela wrote:

- gas: pop (been sleeping to it on and off for the past four years) - thomas köner: nuuk (so very excellent, like all of his work) - loscil: submers (deep -- all the tracks are named after submarines, sometimes with 4/4 beats) - beautumn: blanket (just lush) - tim hecker: radio amor (warm noiselike ambient with lots of gentle distortion and guitar/piano drones) - markus guenther: in moll (pretty gas-y, excellent) and those kompakt pop ambient comps were fun for a time or two :) j On Sun, 3 Oct 2004, sokela wrote:

I have a big list of favourites - but most of these have already been mentioned in this thread, so no use repeating. Just a question: On 3 Oct 2004 at 13:52, Juho Hietala wrote:

Do you mean you put it on and allow it to run through once and by the end of it drift off to sleep, or do you put it on endless repeat for the duration of the night and wake up to it still going round? Now with MP3's it's easy to compile a playlist lasting hours and hours and one could start playing music on Monday morning and by next Sunday night there'd still be fresh tracks coming on... however, living with a husband and two children doesn't allow for this indulgence. So: how do you do it? Do you live alone? Do your drive your partner mad? Does your partner share your direction in musical style? I must also add that the subject line completely baffled me. Records that Toto listen to before sleeping??? WHOA :-) And who's to know? Are the groupies keeping lists of the music played in various hotel bedrooms?! Apart from 76:14, which will always rank as a favourite, Air's Moon Safari also works well as a sleepy background. Monolake's Hong Kong and Gobi the Desert, SCION Arrange And Process Basic Channel Tracks, Rhythm & Sound, anything hypnotically repetitive like Vladislav Delay, the early FAX releases, Arovane's Tides & Lilies, Bola's FYUTI, Beefcake, Biosphere, BoC High Scores EP, Console Live at the Pompidou Centre, Swim Team #1 comp, Ambient Soho comp., Earthrise (Ninja Tune compilation from looooong ago - brilliantly dreamy) - etc. etc. Also the Em:t releases, esp. the wonderful WOOB #1194. Oh! and not to forget my old favourite: Aural Expansion's Surreal Sheep. All good. (sorry, there I went off on a tangent after saying no use adding to the thread). Goodnight and sleep well wherever you may be! Regards from Cape Town South Africa where it's a balmy warm night. depends. sometimes i press shuffle and repeat, but most of the time i drift off the second i hear the first track start (yes, it's gone to that stage. i can't play the cd without falling asleep ever again), so there's no need to.

i live alone. and my partner doesn't mind, whenever he's around to spend the night, he likes it actually. lately i've been doing playlists of just gas and köner together, shuffle, repeat and play.. bliss. all the dreams are so good. oh, and i always set the volume so that i'm barely hearing the music. sometimes i get up in the middle of the night and turn the volume down. can't sleep to anything that distracts me too much, like someone suggested telefon tel aviv -- that's way too busy for my dreaming business. :) juho

I guess anything that's repetitive enough, and doesn't have to abrupt changes or loud sounds in it can be ideal to fall asleep to. Slower tempo's are probably better as well, although I can fall asleep to a mix of the atmosperic drum'n'bass as well, but that might have something to do with the amount of alcohol I have in my blood when I pop in a dnb mix saterdaynights at 4am cause I feel like hearing some beats after an overdose of commercial/contemporary music :) I don't know how many producers are no this list, but perhaps a sleeping-song compo would be nice? :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I like to listen to music when I'm going to bed. For starters: autechre - amber aphex twin - selected ambeint works II (althogh there are some tracks which can interrupt nice dreams just beginning) Miscrostoria - Invisible architecture #3 Space night comp. i recommend 'sunset mission' and 'midnight radio' from bohren und der club of gore. and as others have suggested, 'the tired sounds of' and 'avec laudanum' from stars of the lid are also excellent. last night i fell asleep listening to 'thursday afternoon' from brian eno. at one point i was playing both that album and 'neroli' together, and it was blissful. -rachel On Sun, 03 Oct 2004 05:11:15 +0200, sokela <alekos.bibudis@s1998.tu-chemnitz.de> wrote:

'The Conet Project Remix Session': it beats counting sheep. I'm surprised (a bit, at least) that no one's noted anything by the Orb, nor 'Chill Out' by the KLF. If I ever slept, I'd probably put them on before doing it. Rainbow Dome Music's more of an early morning thing, imo, with all those water sounds going on: ablutions and what not. It is great stuff. Patrick McGoohan claimed to have dreamt the theme music to 'The Prisoner', which he then whistled to Ron Grainier, the credited composer. Goodnight, Irene. ;) seek np: Thomas Koner/Asmus Tietchens - Kontakt der Junglinge 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

can't go wrong with Chill Out... of the Dreamfish album that came out on Rising High, for that matter... I also really like Merzbow's Sleeper Awkens... album. I think it came out Streamline. Nurse With Wound - Soliloquy For Lilith, Thunder Perfect Mind Autechre - Garbage Richard H. Kirk - Virtual State Psychophysicist - self titled non-idm choices... Frigid Stars by Codeine Loveless by My Bloody Valentine I don't recommend falling asleep with Cream Of The Second Coming by Whitehouse set to repeat play. I distinctly recall waking up in the middle of the night after a disturbing dream wherein everything I touched died. It ended with me sitting by myself in some sort of desert, tapping beetles on the back with one finger, then building a pyramid of their corpses. _________________________________________________________________ Powerful Parental Controls Let your child discover the best the Internet has to offer. http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-ca&page=byoa/prem&xAPID=1994&DI=1034&SU=http://hotmail.com/enca&HL=Market_MSNIS_Taglines Start enjoying all the benefits of MSN? Back when I used to drink the Gamma Hydroxy-butyll stuff or what ever the kids call it these days, I had some strange dreams "falling asleep" to Plasticman "sheet One" it was kind of this soundtrack to floating around out of my body visiting other places, going through walls, etc, that kind of narcotic haze kind of dreaming. It was fun while it was fun! --- dj fishead <fishead666@hotmail.com> wrote:

Ditto on a lot of those. Did anyone mention ghislain Poirier? "sous le mangier" and "il ny pas de sud" are good sleep music, but definitely NOT "beats as politics". Also: keith f. Whitman - playthroughs two lone swordsmen - the fifth mission (one of the discs, can't remember which) any of eno's ambient/instrumental stuff. the shutov assembly always put me right to sleep, but one of the last tracks always woke me up with a sound like someone whipping a rope through the air. Pole, julee cruise, set fire to flames, for a while all sorts of shoegaze stuff would work. Good call whoever named lycia. The whole wall-of-sound with whispered vocals did the job, as did, most of the projekt label and the goth/ambient thing. Sucks being an insomniac. At least there's plenty of music that'll work as a sleep aid. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Oh hell yeah ;-) that's like Zoviet:France's Digilogue (I think that's the one) that bumbles along ever so nicely to lull you to sleep, then RIGHT at the very end, there's a horrible ghastly noise... just to make quite sure that you're not taking it too easy! I actually converted the whole thing to a wave, edited out the offending bit and re-burned the CD, to make it a more pleasant snooze experience... sheesh, the things we do!
