2) about TEAM SHADETEK + TLS listening party
TEAM SHADETEK -live-
Making a pit stop in Chicago, in the middle of their US tour, we are elated
to welcome TEAM SHADETEK for their first ever Chicago live performance!
TEAM SHADETEK, one of WARP¹s newest acts, comes with a blistering blend of
fun, old school hip hop beats and ragga jungle ...and the kind of
infectious, crunchy electronica pioneered by Autechre, Gescom, Push Button
Objects, etc. Fans of Prefuse 73, Dr.Dre, Jimmy Edgar, Gescom, PBO, AE, etc
will definitely rejoice in the infectious sounds of TEAM SHADETEK. TS are
on the road promoting their upcoming WARP release (in stores 15.JULY),
called Burnerism, which surprisingly captures the energy and dynamism of
their live shows. Come out tonight to get a taste of what to expect on
their hot upcoming album!
TEAM SHADETEK (SOZE.SHT (Matt) and ZATS.ONE (Zack Zizmore)) grew up in the
same neighborhood in downtown Manhattan and started producing tracks
together in 1999. Their early releases on their own SHADETEk label along
with recent releases on Kid606's TIGERBEAT6 family of labels have been
extremely well received around the world and have been featured on a wide
range of discriminating djs playlists including those of the Optimo crew,
The Bug's Razor X Sound, 4Tet, Graham Massey, DJ /Rupture, Kid606 and
Maryanne Hobbs on the BBC's Breeze Block radio show. These combined with
their high energy live appearances at venues including Berlin's Döner Lounge
and Labland, WMF, Tonic, Joe's Pub and Pianos in NYC, London's Wheels
Instead of Hooves parties, Glasgow's Optimo and the Panoptica festival in
Belgium among many others have contributed to their reputations as one of
the most exciting up and coming crews in the current electronica landscape.
DJ /RUPTURE describes their style as 'outernational' spanning a range of
influences from the hiphop and dancehall of their upbringing in NYC, ragga
jungle, experimental electronica from WARP artists like AUTECHRE and APHEX
TWIN along with a strong dose of urban youth culture aesthetics including
punk rock 'destroy it yourself' means of production, rave culture and the
competitive battle aesthetics of grafitti and hiphop. These colliding
worlds, combined with their discovery of the plasticity of digital art
production at a young age lead TEAM SHADETEK to their current technological
urban aesthetic.

TWO LONE SWORDSMEN listenting party...
For the clueless, TWO LONE SWORDSMEN are ANDREW WEATHERALL and KEITH
TENNISWOOD. Respectively, they are creatively enigmatic, yet fiercely
talented, studio producers, engineers, remixers, label owners, musical
collaborators, djs, music criticsjacks of all trades, if you will with a
list of clients/collaborators/side projects that goes on for miles n¹ miles.
Living legends, these two guys are, with work credits including: Primal
Scream, Sabres of Paradise, David Holmes, Sneaker Pimps, Alter Ego, Slab,
Radioactive Man, The Aloof, Red Snapper, Lino Square, Rude Solo, Calexico,
Ricardo Villalobos, Decal, etc. And with the little spare time left over,
they run a funky, dark minimal electro label called Rotters Golf Club.
TWO LONE SWORDSMEN seems to be the project name the duo tends to use most
frequently, formed in 1996... Having created a string of critically hailed
albums, singles, and EPs along the way. Now in 2004, the duo have released
a brand new single and interesting new album, From The Double Gone
Chapel....a sound that takes the dark electronics + beats they are known
for, only this time experimenting with live instruments (guitar, bass,
drums, vocals) for something more raw, immediate + human. Influences like
Gun Club, Public Image LTD, Trans Am, Joy Division, 80¹s dark
post-punk/rock, are all apparent when listening to this.
FROM THE DOUBLE GONE CHAPEL...
³What the fuck are they up to now?² This is what ANDREW WEATHERALL and
KEITH TENNISWOOD expect you to think when you play their new album, From The
Double Gone Chapel. That¹s WEATHERALL singing. And TENNISWOOD playing
guitar and bass, while a number of drummers take their turn on a kit that
once belonged to JAH WOBBLE¹s band, and KILLING JOKE....bringing the voodoo
to their new songs.
Two years in the making, From the DGC is a much needed break away for the
duoa break away from the sterile techno and electronica floating around.
Whenever WEATHERALL feels like he¹s had enough techno, he goes back to his
roots in rockabilly, good ole rock & roll and dub, understanding that the
visceral energy of any good dance music is the same as in a good rockabilly
song. From the DGC is about making music WITH machines, not by machines.
The new formula works beautifully, WEATHERALL¹s brooding, deadpan
intonations playing off the unmistakable TLS studio witchery. Raw power and
raw emotion, for those familiar with SABRES OF PARADISE, this could be the
even darker album following the murky depths of Haunted Dancehall.
