heres some off the top of my head (some might be
obvious):
zoviet france (try "look into me" first, imo)
and then the solo offshoot Rapoon...
some like Nurse with Wound or Coil, who are certainly
dark, but i dont care for em too much...
Hazard- dark drones (with processed field recordings)
Muslimgauze (sorta dark, but quite the bomb, as they
say... hes got tons of releases out there, and many
more coming, almost all of them good. its such a shame
he passed on...)
Gas (some of his is blissfully dark, try Zauberberg
first)
Andrew Chalk
Ora
Alio Die
each deep mostly organic ambient drones mixed with
field recordings. beautiful stuff. id start with
either Ora- Rosea or Ora/Alio Die- The Door of
Possibilities)
Vidna Obmana (stick with his early stuff, his more
recent stuff has turned rather new age. but his old
stuff is gloomy layered exquisite loops. try Memories
Compiled for instance...
Vidna also did a colab with Sam Rosenthal called
Terrace of Memories wich is dark and melancholy. quite
beautiful.
The excellent but very hard to find 1Tau, by B.D.
Hegenbart. hes got a new one out called 2Tau which i
havent heard yet...
of course theres always early skinny puppy :)
