marumari baby m announcement
signer summer
acute vs. carpark
carpark signs band that begins with "the"
tuchus
it's official! josh and sasha (aka marumari) are the proud parents
of a little baby boy named aven. the little tyke came at the end of
last month and word so far is that everyone is doing well. even
marumari's big dog bacon has taken a liking to the little feller. if
we're lucky maybe pictures of aven will surface on marumari.com.
meanwhile, marumari is completing a series of cave paintings and a
new album should be ready by next spring or summer.
signer signer no.9
signer's "low light dreams" will be released by carpark on august
20th. the cd and double lp are now available to purchase online
exclusively through the carpark shop
(<
http://www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html>www.carparkrecords.com/carparkshop.html).
we also still have a few craprak t-shirts left so be quick!
signer will embark upon a north american and european tour this fall.
for about two weeks, signer will tour with radian (thrilljockey) and
pan-american (kranky). these dates will include new york, boston,
montreal, toronto, pittsburgh, detroit, cleveland, chicago and more.
after that, signer will head over to the west coast to play shows
with a soon-to-be confirmed act. we hate to be secretive but we
should know real soon.
for our british friends, signer will be playing at the big chill
festival at eastnor castle, herefordshire, august 16-18.
other new stuff
september 17th will see the release of casino versus japan's long
awaited 3rd full-length "whole numbers play the basics." november
4th we have the first dvd by video trio 242.pilots. the group
features kurt ralske (who you may remember from ultra vivid scene and
cathars), lukasz lysakowski, and hc gilje. the dvd contains solo
pieces by each artist, a live video improvisation, and a short piece
about them produced by belgian national television. whew!
carpark internationale
once signer has seen enough of north america, they'll head back to
europe for the "carpark europe tour." this tour will feature signer,
takagi masakatsu, ogurusu norihide, and safety scissors on select
dates. we're working on this tour right now so if you live in europe
and are interested in hosting a show in november please get in touch!
we're also planning a carpark japan tour to feature greg davis,
hrvatski, takagi masakatsu, and ogurusu norihide. we will let you
know when this will happen as soon as we get word.
carpark goes post-punk
carpark is teaming up with new post-punk reissue label acute
(<
http://www.acuterecords.com>www.acuterecords.com). this october,
we are bringing you the inaugural release by the theoretical girls
entitled "theoretical record". theoretical girls were a late 70s new
york city no-wave group featuring jeffrey lohn, glenn branca, wharton
tiers, and margaret dewyss. the reissue will make available music
that has never been commercially available. see where bands like
sonic youth got some of their inspiration. it really is an
eye-opener. look out for more acute releases in the near future.
the gossip
a few tidbits to report this month. greg davis has officially moved
back to his hometurf of chicago. he will begin working on his next
record very soon. he's also playing at the deadtech gallery in
chicago on august 24th.
the "wanna buy a craprak?" compilation will be ready early 2003. a
highlight of the comp will be a video by takagi masakatsu about
marumari and their new baby! takagi masakatsu is also playing a big
show in tokyo to celebrate the japanese release of his "journal for
people" dvd. check out the carpark live page for more details.
if you are in new york this wednesday august 7th check out the "cash
boys night out" at sub-tonic (107norfolk street). yours truly and
the rest of the cash boys will be spinning all the unpopular hits.
and it's free!
also...look out for features on carpark this month on epitonic.com
and groovetech.com.
trivia question
the first person to answer this question correctly gets their choice
of any one carpark item:
which carpark artist is a vegetarian?
good luck!
