i can't remember the Burbs so good, but what i DO remember is the Braindance showcase last night at Fun/NYC. kicked off with a 1.5hr+ DJ set by Cylob. it was really fresh (and i mean it, it was fresh). got things warmed up with nice playful electro-y ditties, and progressed into, like, acid techno. by the end of his set the crowd was thick and even a little damp. DMXKrew did a live PA next which was pretty rad too. he just basically did his thing (dropping geek-hop, occassionally grabbing the mic whenever he feels a sudden surgence of 'hypeness'). next Ovuca comes on, announced as Astrobotnia (if you haven't heard the mp3s on rephlex.com, you should do so, it's lovely and creative, a fresh take on that classic rephlex flavor). anyhoot, a couple people didn't seem to dig his undanceable-ness, but isn't that the point?! his set kicked ass and had a plethora of creative melodic skitters with manic beat maelstrom underneath. cant wait for the releases. Bogdan next. i'm not that familiar with his music, and found myself surprised by how much i enjoyed his set. i didn't realize he would be that "pop" (in that there was always a nice melody somewhere). of course, underneath he twisted his d n' b into an attractive frankenstein. only problem with his set, he really just seemed to press play and then bug out. overall great night, and the crowd was pretty rad too. if this is coming through your town, i highly recommend. and remember to take plenty of acid! _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
