Just received those two, One from Mitek a very interesting minimal electronic label from Sweden, and Kohvi from Estonia. Both have following new releases: FOLIE: Misspass CD 24/05/2002 Mitek Mitek look incorrigible further for new Swedish talent. This fourth CD fits good with the first two, the minimal first one from Stavöstrand (also label owner) and the second with dub oriented minimal electronic from acts as Andreas Tilliander and Silent Comfort, the third CD from Andreas Berthling was a bit lesser to our ears. But this is compensated by this Folio (Stefan Thor) release. He flirted with dub, electro, glitch and all kinds of warm electronic sounds but dub takes an important place on the album. In songs as “Boulevard”, “Brovah” and “Joimp” keeps the bass line things together and with a variation of filling are created different moods. Wacko in “Boulevard” with the cut up voices where he made a fogy disturbed alien a like conversation in certain parts of the song, or dark ill-bient like in “Joimp”. But it goes further, the very good “Cikada” does think of the electropop from the eighties with much experimental breakbeat and glitch sounds. This is even more worked out in the steaming “Time” electro, dub-lines and fat basses, a track that must make you freaking. For the ones that can appreciate as well music against the grain as fluent stuff. GALAKTLAN: Sinine platoo CD 2002 Kohvirecords Khovi from Estonia keeps us surprising, after two label sampler which reach us, now this CD from Galaktlan. Which is the alter ego from Taavi Laatsit who in 1999 released an album under the synonym Vonsuck and forms Uni together with Hendrik Luuk. Taavi create with his project Galaktlan a warm organic mood which is not always pleasing, sometimes not cacheable, not-earth. Not surprising if you now that one of his influences are Old Russian science fiction movies. The songs have besides the warm organic music also a rhythmic aspect. The rhythms are weave in the total sound, and are mostly build up around minimal pulsing electronic with recognisable rudimentary melodies, like Kraftwerk (“Videoton”). A record that strike in the nowadays electronic scene with his warm sound, it is even more interesting that it is build with minimal pieces…recommended.
