Storage concerns re: lossless audio might be solved for me by the oncoming cheapness of DVD-recorders. A 9.4gb disc should be able to hold 26 or more albums - over twice as many albums as fit on a CD-R in MP3 format... Just a thought. Of course, this would make it more difficult to share them (takes up more space on the HD, and who's gonna download it?), but it'd be an "ultimate" backup b/c of the losslessness, and one could encode into any format anybody wanted from the backup, rather than re-reading from CD all the time. Hmm... then it's just a question of which DVD-recording technology to invest in... .adam --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I recently purchased an EZ-Quest External FW Super-Drive. I'm primarily using it to back up all my ProTools Sessions for the shows I design. So far, the drive has performed superbly. It uses the General DVD-R format discs (you can buy 5 of these discs from an Apple Store for $25!!) I'm thinking of getting the new Waves Rennaisance Restoration plugs and backing up all my old vinyl onto DVD. DVD-R's a great format. It's just not widespread enough to be practical for everyone to use...yet -paulp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
