If I'm not totally mistaken, Miss Dinky is of Chilean origin, but lives in NYC. She used to (does?) work at Sonic Groove. /Regards, /Hasse Mr. Hans Erik Nilsson of Light Years - Integral Communications http://www.lightyears.se o o o o o Voice: +46 70 445 02 78 SMS: 0704450278@sms.comviq.se >Standard disclaimer file active< --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Can you give me some pointers to Brazilian stuff? Christian Azymuth is from Brasil, minas gerais. Am I the only brazilian on this list? Dj Dolores from recife, pernambuco, just played last week on free jazz festival, on rio de janeiro and sao paulo, the two biggest cities of brasil, opening for Roni Size and Aphex Twin. Aphex Twin, as a friend said, was djing on a dark side of the stage while a friend of him was dancing on the center of stage...! Here in Brasil the media is interested in how dj marky and dj patife are going on UK d´n´b scene... Igor _________________________________________________________________ Chegou o novo MSN Explorer. Ok, no more hiding and pretending. I am BRAZILIAN too!. That's why I asked Tom Weibrecht about Brazilian pointers. I was curious to know what people outsite Brazil would recommend. I was a little disapointed. Tom Weibrecht wrote:

I have listened to "musica eletronica brasileira" and found it very weak. I have never listened to "caipirinha". Amon Tobin is new to me, I have just checked his web site which is very good! But he has moved to the UK ïn his early teens" so he won't count as brazilian really. But Carlinhos Brown? Come on?! He is just a poser. I don't know about his current work because I have disregarded him as a good musician a long time ago. And he keeps making an idiot of himself anytime he gets on the media to say a word. i never listened. it´s very difficult to find it here. but I have a friend that has a track on this record, cynthia zamorano. now she´s on spain, had played in some europe festivals, along with goldie and others... but I think her work is more d´n´b than idm... amon tobin played here in recife last april. very very good. but I don´t think he consider himself brazilian... neither his music...

carlinhos brown isn´t even electronic music! is like saying harry connick jr is electronic music! he´s married with the daughter of chico buarque, great brazilian composer, and got a good record deal with sony for world distribution, so it´s look like he´s the great sensation out of brazil... but not here.

recife, pernambuco, on northeast. i couldn´t go, is was just on rio de janeiro and sao paulo, far from here... and i saving some money for a laptop and new studio monitors... to hear better reaktor 3.04!

playing a lot in u.k. along roni size, fabio, jumpin jack frost and others... I think it´s a little bit difficult to break the little circle done in u.k. by some d´n´b producers... and they are handling this very well...

I've seen occasional mentions of South American drum'n'bass and wondered whether anyone on this list could give me a description of what it's like? Seems to me UK drum'n'bass and its sub-genres have pretty much stopped being interesting ('cept for 4Hero). All the best, Colin.

I am very content that you got it, I was worried.

I am sorry, but not everyone knows the answers to the questions afterhand. Anyway, I was glad I got an answer, my disapointement cane when I noted that FEW of the references given in the answer were truly Brazilian idm. Maybe Brasil do not have any good idm music or maybe it is hard to someone to get Brazilian stuff outside the country, specially since it is hard to get it inside.

Did that *really* hurt you? Did you never wondered that there are people from other countries than your own on the list?

That´s exactly my point. His music is shit. He is a media creation, and even the media shut him down because he is unbearable and his work disappointed even the harnessed public. Now and them he pops up in some MTV-VMA party or a late night interview show.

Oh, come on man. It is just for fun, anyway, isn´t it? ;-) And thanks for answering the question, really. You were the only one that bothered. Seriously, man. i haven't seen anyone mention any idm shops in south america on this thread. i'm curious not because i'm lucky enough to be going there, but because i'm trying to find idm-friendly stores around the globe to sell grooves magazine at. i've had some luck with rotator locator and motion's shopfinder but there's a lot of incomplete, outdated, etc. info on those things, too. if anyone knows any stores near them--anywhere on the globe--that don't currently sell grooves and should, please let me know (including contact info, e-mail addresses especially). thanks. btw, grooves #7 is at the printer's now and promises the following features: autechre alt. hip-hop special (incl. cLOUDDEAD, techno animal, roots manuva, def jux crew and more) herbert janek schaefer bogdan raczynski susumu yokota twine safety scissors andreas tilliander expanded gear review section 200+ music reviews and more, more, more sean groovesmag.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well, from what I've heard it's...OK. Don't expect anything too radical - it's more like two different genres that have been 'bolted' together and ended up sounding pretty good. Probably the most obvious thing to pick up would be the DJ Marky - Brazilian Job CD on the Movement label. I've been listening to it quite a bit - the more obvious 'Brazilian' tracks are fairly standard D&B breaks and bass with a bit of guitar and Portugese vocals - maybe a 3-second samba loop or two thrown in as well. Some of them are quite nice, but the best track on it, if you ask me, is the J Majik Spaced Invaders remix, which is from the UK. However, my friend, who's much more of a D&B head, would no doubt tell you that I'm talking bollocks and the whole album is the best thing since sliced bread. If you want a slightly more inventive D&B/batucada mix then I still reckon Permutation by Amon Tobin is a really good one to check out Dan.

Hi, I am from Brazil, where I was working with the electronic music scene for the last 7 years. Dj Mark is one of my friends, we was to spinning together in 1999/2000 at this club in the center of Brazil, called Pulse Club(www.pulse.com.br), one of the best eletronic music clubs in south america. Brazil has one of the biggest scenes not just from south america, but world also. About Mark, he is a old skool drum n bass dj, resident also on the Movement/Club Mass/Bar Rumba - U.K. He's first cd/work is called Worki'n the mix (Paradoxx), and also one mix cd release with the UK Knowlodge Magazine, and was the only brazillian dj's that's spinning at the Kiss FM radio station UK. Now he is called " The number one dj of drum n bass", at the Knowlodge Magazine review (www.knowledgemag.co.uk), and his last work is Audio Architecture(Trama Records, Brazil). his style is a mix of hard step/jazzy/bossa nova. with somebody need more informations about the Brazillian Eletronic Scene,dj's, raves, clubs, magazines, can send me email. I living in Atlanta-Ga, I just move from Brazil have 1 year, and I am responsible for a underground label - (Dass Records), an independent studio of eletronic productions, and we have one new release, the " Dass The Unity" project, one mix of atmospheric drum n bass/IDM/bossa nova(brazillian jazz)/hiphop. "Space Steppers", with 10 cover/10 tracks. and also, I am responsible for distribction/contact for the Unspeakable Truth Recordings(www.mischiefandreason.com) in south america. I mean, whatever you guys need about help and contact with South America(Brazil,Argentina) and Europe(Portugal, Spain), let me know. Sorry my poor english... I try... fredxtc --- Dan Shoebridge <Dan.Shoebridge@opsroom.co.uk> wrote:

Thanks for the information Dan - must confess I'm not greatly attracted - I'm a big fan of drum'n'bass/jungle up to 95/96ish, though I'm definitely not an expert. I once picked up volume 2 of East-Westercisms: d'n'b+asian and found it pretty poor - sort of cultural tourism. Then again, anything that lifts the 'dark' shroud from the music has to be good I guess. Cheers, Colin.
