I believe Requiem For A Dream was based on a book Hubert Selby Jr. wrote in
'78, so I believe the source material for the movie predates both of your
examples. I don't really see how it can be a rip off of Lynch and Drugstore
Cowboy in terms of source material, as thematically they all rip on older
work.
If you mean stylistically, Aronofsky takes from a lot more than just Lynch
and Van Sant, but I think he did quite a bit of innovative work in terms of
style as well. I think the sheer volume of different techniques he put into
one movie made it quite incredible, and I think he did it in a homogenous
way, where little felt really forced. (ie. Bullet Time in almost every movie
but the matrix)
As the guy who saw Pi and didn't see much improvement, I saw Pi in it's
original theatrical run and was thoroughly unimpressed. I thought Requiem
had coherance and made sense, two things thoroughly lacking in Pi.
My $0.02 anyhow.
