Did some trades to pick up a couple of CDs on the weekend - with both being NZ releases I thought I'd do a bit of a spiel about them. I'm pretty crap at writing reviews so apologies in advance. v/a - nurture [nurture / kog transmissions] If you managed to pick up any of their records you know what to expect - nice synths, warm bass, interesting percussion, minimal techno with personality basically - I love it. If you haven't got any of the records then this is a great place to start, its got most of the best tracks from the records on it - from the incredibly blissed out opener track by son.sine to the breakbeat tech-house of mattno from the debut release (nice name change too...). Its even got a new track by Cyrus Facciano. Only track I don't think fits in is the Clone one - it sounds as if they reemastered the track while on +8 or something. Bit of a pity really since I love the other tracks on that 12 to bits. Anyway nurture is easily my favourite NZ label so if you want to find out why go grab a copy. The domestic NZ release is out but I'm not sure about the rest of the world (domestic does not equal NA release - OK?). For more info on nurture check the idm archives. v/a - welcome to... (huh!) Another compilation, this one being an introduction to the NZ house scene. I picked this up thinking that it would be more in line with what I enjoy about NZ house (rather than say the Algorithm CDs on Kog) but I'm wrong. Right from the word go there's far too much wack slap bass for me. Nevermind - it does contain the absolute classic "Earth is the Place" by Nathan Haines, and some other decent tracks like the ones by Soane and Rob Salmon. Oh and a Peak:Shift one too (label owner of Nurture...) - that track's more my style. Dave ps these Treibstoff tracks sound great! ===== --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
