L.A. ONLY POST - SORRY IF THIS DOESN'T HELP YOU
hey all of you in socal,
ever since i moved out here a couple years ago i've
lamented the lack of proper shops in which one can go
in and buy records like a normal human being without
being lambasted by the staff or gouged by extortionate
prices ($11.99 for 12"s, $24 plus for LP's) - the end
result was that i ended up shopping online for damn
near everything, despite being in one of the biggest
cities in america. whafuck?
but - alas, my luck has turned. a new shop on melrose
ave. just opened recently, i went by there this
weekend on the advice of a friend. it's called "this
is music," it's basically west of beat non-stop and
wax if you know where they're at. the guy that runs
the store just moved down from montreal, an extremely
nice bloke named fred. i was all too shocked to see a
healthy section of experimental/downtempo electronic
at the end, past equally good house, techno and jungle
bins. everything's priced reasonably, $8.99 for most
import singles with albums clocking in anywhere from
$13-19 for the most part. among other things he had
copies of the ovuca on rephlex, ae's newest and all
kinds of other cool stuff. some of the backstock was
priced even cheaper, i scored a couple import 12"s for
$4.99. whadda bargain.
anyway - just relaying the info as i was pretty stoked
to see a new kid on the block, and thought the rest of
you might want to check it out if you're fed up with
surly clerks and ridiculous prices for beat-up wax on
melrose. well recommended, and yes they've got
listening stations so you can try before you buy :)
all for now - brock
