I always find it interesting how opinions can differ so much. Here's a copy of my review of "Clean Pit & Lid" from amazon.com: .................... I was really looking forward to hearing this Seefeel side project, and given the vintage (early 1996 Warp), it should be just great. What I found was almost nothing but despair and depression. All but two tracks on this album (Gammi and Kracht) have some sort of forlorn, dark, distant melody. Tracks like Conviction Hic and Pit sound like the music of blind fish in an underground cave filled with blood. Ack. The percussion is decent and sounds much like Seefeel, but borrows a lot from Autechre and Aphex. (I gave this CD two stars because of the nice crunchy drum tracks.) I have no idea what "Clean Pit and Lid" as a title is supposed to mean. But Mark Clifford of Disjecta has created the perfect soundtrack for how you feel when you've got food poisoning. Maybe even Clifford himself hated this music, which could be why he disappeared after releasing it. There is a plethora of better music on Warp to explore. Avoid this album like the plague, and I'm not even close to kidding. .................... A year after first hearing this album, I still feel this way. IN MY OPINION, it is by far the worst recording in the Warp Records catalog. Good thing I didn't waste my money on it. I haven't heard the single from the album ("Looking for Snags" -- is that what it's called?). Could anyone offer their review of it? I might give it a chance if it sounds nothing like the album. forcasa __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hmmm. I have to say when I bought this album I first thought of it as less than mediocre. But it grew on me like nothing else did before. It is a very good solid recording of ambient like minimal idm of Warp's AI series era. Works fine as background as well. Alien np. V/A - going thru life (Delsin) Very soothing and relaxing.... nice car melodies.

like the first writer, i'll have to respectfully disagree on this one. mark clifford effectively takes the seefeel sound circa succour and renders it even more desolate. it's much better than saw2 for those who are less interested in bare minimal melody/repetition. it also one ups autechre as well in its use of more organic sounds at a time when ae themselves had moved on to more clanking territory (tri repetae). just because one prefers less somber tunes doesn't mean he/she should blast the album. it's just not your tastes, that's all... craig. . . aural|architecture . . techno|idm|microsound . . host|craig_s . . thursdays|11pm-2am . . 106.9 fm|dayton ohio . . webcast|listen.to/wwsu

I know what you mean - I thought that was a great review... Seriously, though, its a great record for fans of Succour-era Seefeel. I always found Succour to be their strongest LP anyway... -- _____ omz _____ Beautamous Loaf Recordings -streaming audio http://www.mp3.com/stations/beautamous_loaf --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
