Snd: Stdio (on Mille Plateaux) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is an absolutely beautiful release. I expected alot of glitch, and while it is definately there, what else is there is what makes the release. Namely, deep deep house chords/tones supplement the glitch to effect an ambient groove i have yet to find done so well elsewhere. Definately a step forward from their past material, and a repeatedly pleasurable experience in its own right. 9/10 -Thad --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, I agree that this is a great release. I've read quite a few comments from older SND fans condemning this one, but I thought it was a really interesting direction to go in. I don't think I'd use the word "glitch" in relation to it... there are little ticky sounds and everything sounds very sculpted, but the basis of the tracks is simple repeating chords and syncopated percussion. I think it was Lance on the IDM list who said it was kind of lounge, even. Whatever it is, it's certainly more varied than previous SND releases, if anyone's heard older stuff and been put off by how similar their tracks can be from one to the next. Yes SND's stdio is still a keeper to my ears and even more engaging than their previous relases (though i still enjoy the previous stuff). I certainly wont be condemning this one anytime soon. But there is a recent SND-related release that i am less enthusiastic about - the .H mini lp, entitled 1-3/4-6 on Hobby Industries. Usually stuff from SND and Hobby Industries can alway be trusted but, for some reason, this release didnt work for me. It featured four tracks of very cold sterile experimental minimalism somewhat like the Shirt Trax stuff but not as good. I plan on revisiting the release when i get through all my new listening tasks and maybe it has gotten better with age. But in the meantime, stick with Stdio or the new SND track on the Clicks & Cuts 2 compilation. -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
