Has anyone heard tracks from the new Daft Punk album yet? How is? I picked up the "One More Time" single, and thought it was great. Though I have a hunch that the rest of this list won't agree with me. Yup, it is more commercial sounding; and it is a very one-dimensional track. But it's that type of one-dimensional behemoth that just exudes euphoria and pheromones, like say Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and A Guy Called Gerald's "Voodoo Ray". It just has the feel of a millenial rainbow anthem -- interpreting the word "rainbow" however you want. Then again, I'm just coming around to realizing how amazing "Homework" is. If I had appreciated that when it came out, I would have tossed Basement Jaxx's "Remedy" in the bin. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Man, don't appologize for digging daftpunk! Homework is amazing! I only was able to listen through the new one a few times, but it sounded really nice. More of the same retro-70s highly electronic disco/funk kinda stuff. What's nice is that these guys are able to make albums that you want to listen to start to finish, rather than just putting out DJ oriented 12"s. -Gil On Sat, 3 Mar 2001, Brian MacDonald wrote:

Trouble is, there's little to distinguish between "One More Time" and the five million Daft Punk clones that spawned in their wake. Don't get me wrong, I love Daft Punk -- "Homework" is a fantastic album -- but "One More Time" sounds too much like someone pretending to be Daft Punk than Daft Punk themselves. However, fear ye not. Tracks from "Discovery" have been surfacing on Napster and I've been very impressed with what I've heard so far. It looks like "Discovery" is going to be right up there with "Homework". -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I think "One More Time" is the most senseless piece of drivel these guys have ever come up with. They bought into the trend, and brought nothing new to the table. Its certainly not in the same league of innovation as Gerald's Voodoo Ray. I havent heard the rest of the album, but if "One More Time" is any indication of it, I'm not supporting it. But I agree, "Homework" was a great album. Refreshing, yet using all the sounds and rhythms we have heard before. Only the French can make something good, better. Up until now, that is. I gotta say that I pretty much agree with this opinion. I thought most of "Homework" was a lot of fun, but "One More Time" reminds me too much of that horrible Euro-disco group that I can't recall the name of right now who did that really annoying "I'm Blue" song a year or so back. i had no idea that "one more time" was by Daft Punk when i first heard it. i can't really explain why, but i found it clever in a "senseless" kind of way... it's already getting heavy rotation in clubs, radio etc. for a pop funk/house tune, it's very well-produced IMO.

Yes, actually, the video is quite fascinating. I wish the Daft Punk DVD I got for Xmas had it. Some good concert footage on that disc... you can choose your own angles (my fave of course is the camera position right above the gear).
