[Sorry if this has come up before - I only get time to read 50% of digests these days] I saw a pretty damning review of Cydonia, the new Orb album - anyone else heard it or read any reviews? The one I saw was on UK channel 4 teletext, so not likely to be the most broad minded or well-informed soource. The reviewer bemoaned it being noodly stuff with no beats like Blue Room or Toxygene, and not worthy of four years' wait since Orblivion. I can't say I'm too excited about a new release, but curious for old times' sake. It won't appeal to many Orb fans because, frankly, he's gone a bit pop (even though he vehemently denies it). Vocals on four tracks, women, could be Sneaker Pimps if you were high enough. But to its credit, Cydonia gets back to LX's reggae-lovin' roots with some dubby stuff the likes of which haven't been heard since "Slug Dub" from OT. Or maybe even "Perpetual Dawn." And for spotters, there are two tracks originally recorded during the FFWD sessions that appear with some tweaking...very nice. laz PS: the Pritchard remixes of the first single, "Once More," are quite ace. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
