Alright, unedited, with some comments to avoid any possible "what is this
record and why should I care?" responses.
'Tiny Reminders' - Two Lone Swordsmen (yep, much more electro than the
other recent Warp releases, but still with the detailed, sculpted digital
aesthetic that hit its stride with 'Stay Down'. pretty damn varied,
actually, over its 19 tracks.)
'Nowhere' - Ride (completely list-irrelevant shoegazer record from 10 years
ago. not the best thing of its kind, but some tracks I still love.)
'Imagine Me' - Moka Only (hip-hop 12" on BattleAxe. Got it for the tune
with Abstract Rude. Nice, again nothing amazing.)
'Tides' - Arovane (EVERYONE knows about this one. I find it so mellow as to
be a little too unassuming. Or perhaps just a bit boring. I know I'm going
to love it when the right mood hits.)
'The Complete Africa/Brass Sessions' - John Coltrane (he was some jazz guy,
right? ;-) wicked modal stuff gets me very excited and hating electronic
music reasonably passionately :-)
'Voices in My Lunchbox' (Comp on Plug Research, talked about plenty on
here. I've basically just been thrashing the Kit Clayton tune with the
maudlin guy singing tunelessly. I think I'm in love. If anyone has any
recommends for anything even vaguely like this track I'd be keen to hear them.)
'Anyway That You Want Me' - Spiritualised (comparitively raw first single
from increasingly overblown guitar band)
'Try Again' - Aliyah (kicks ass over people like Destiny's Child that
people are rating for credible mainstream acts, in that it's actually a
decent song. probably thrashed too death, but I don't watch TV or listen to
a radio station that would play it...)
'Shake Your Space Traveller' - Mandrake (80s video game themes vs. 70s
jazz-funk... kinda. whatever. latest Involve release)
'Barrio Nuevo' (Comp on Soul Jazz Records, wicked Latin funk, soul and
disco. Definitely the best dance tunes I've heard in the past year.)
'Periods Make Sense' - Sutekh (no intro required, I'm sure. another one I
find a bit too unassuming and at times boring. sometimes I just love it
though.)
'Penthouse' - Luna (ex-Galaxie 500 guy, ex-Chills guy, some others...
reasonably irreverant sometimes countrified guitar band, worth it for the
lyrics alone. Laetitia Sadier from Stereolab turns up on a weird hidden
track riffing on MC Solaar's 'Nouveau Western', but performed by the
band... again gets me wishing I'd learnt to play guitar and never got into
electronic music. Oh well. ;-)
'Iaora Tahiti' and 'Instrümentals' - Mouse on Mars (my faves from these
guys. streets ahead of the rest of the universe, in their own respect.)
There ya go.
