The new Loam cd on Topscore is pretty good and quite different
stylistically from the other releases on the Topscore label. Whereas
previous Topscore releases focused on various styles of poppy
melodic idm (see their Gain Sturcture comp for a good sampling), the
new Loam cd is much more in the spacious experimental vein
somewhere in the neighborhood of Vladislav Delay on his Sigma
Editions and Chain Reaction albums but still with a hint of
rhythmic complexity that comes wafting in every track or two.
I've already given the Loam cd airplay on several Inaudible shows
and will continue to do so in the near future.

I've also been giving this one Inaudible airplay lately. Douglas
Benford has assembled an eclectic cast of respected producers
for this compilation. All tracks are "loosely" based upon famous
hymns/anthems but moreso in name than in sound (or maybe i'm
just not familiar enough witht the original tracks to recognized
them in the remakes). Regardless, these twenty tracks vary wildly
in style ranging from experimental ambient to poppy idm to old-
school dub to postrock to ambient and even some deep house. I
enjoy most of the tracks on this comp but I think all tracks suffer
from their short length (i think the longest track is no more than
2.5 minutes) and because of the wildly different mixes all lined
up next to each other, there compilation lacks a smooth flow from
track to track. But aside from those two minor points, Hmmm
has some entertaining moments. For me the standouts on this
comp are the tracks by Farben, Kit Clayton, Opiate, Matrix,
Vladislav Delay, and Osymyso but all tracks are good. Give it
a try!
