There isn't much of an 'are' there. Dimitri makes very good music. I would recomend it all around. Future shock from space to take you further from the void. Phthalocyanine has his own label, aptly named Phthalo. You can find it distributed at http://www.thebarrio.com -Lee On Tue, 8 Aug 2000, Ross Balmer wrote:

I can't speak of the rest of Phthalocyanine's catalog because I haven't heard it, but I really like the cd on planet MU. Its pretty unique sounding stuff- disonant, distorted, lots of changes within the tracks. I'm having a hard time coming up with artists to compare to Ph. The new Phthalocyanine CD, "25 Tracks Fer 1 Track" (Planet Mu ZIQ019) is very much in the spirit of his earlier "Navy Warship" CD. In fact, to my ears it's sort of a "Navy Warship II"; it doesn't really cover much new ground -- the same noise-based textures, distorted samples and erratic beats -- but it is very well-crafted and worth seeking out if you liked "Navy Warship." -Ed --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Mother of ... "25 tracks fer 1 track" is just blowing me away. (http://planet-mu.com/ziq019.html) It's like a killer combination of propulsive military-style percussion and echoey deep-space sci-fi themes...or something like that. I just got Zacks as well. Is the earlier Phthalocyanine stuff just as good? Is there anything else like this?? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE video emails in Yahoo! I'm particularly fond of "Navy Warships". Same amazing drum machine work with a bit more experimental take on melody. Yummy stuff. -Ray nuf si wrote:

Is anyone a fan of this ?? I ordered a CD of his and after one listening I think it's fabulous.. best IDM record I've heard in a while. '25 tracks fer 1 track' that is. If so, is his own label's output good?? I'd buy more but it's so hard to get here... I believe I am the only fan of our distinct but deliciously underrated genre that did not care for this album one bit. I listened to it considerably more than I would have under normal circumstances simply due to the positive reception I've been reading, but this album just has no flow. Perhaps this isn't a fair observation, but obviously this "sound" he was after was quite intentional. As Mike P. put it, either you get it or you don't. I clearly do not. Anyone else not get it? I hear his other work is better; should I attempt it? And it is a real shame too. I was checking out his bio on www.planet-mu.com and he has the greatest promo picture I've ever seen. Its stupid, I know, but by that photo I was sure his music would be right up my alley. -ov __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Sign up for SBC Yahoo! I like his "Navy Warship" cd, more so than "25 tracks...". The few other Pthalo releases I picked up, Kit Clayton "Live On Shortwave Radio" and Vladislav Delay (as Sistol) were disappointing. Some reviews of Antenna Farm were favorable, I never picked it up though. -Ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jonathan Hierholzer" <ilovekid606@hotmail.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, July 08, 2002 9:25 PM Subject: [idm] phthalocyanine

His other work is not necessarily better or worse--just different. Dimitri's music is agitation; sometimes it renders itself in the form of a burning itch requiring you run your nails over it in a sordid kind of rhythmic bliss--a relief--while at other times it's an unexpected, overwhelming swarm of pin-pricking noise that leaves you bloodless. Hearing him play live is even more unsettling. So in trying to discern whether to pursue his other releases, keep in mind that they're likley going to agitate in some way.

He rather does look like Neo/Keanu Reeves in that photo, doesn't he? ;) I'll prolly get a pipebomb from him for that remark...by the way, that photo appeared next to a story about him in XLR8R a couple years ago.
