From memory, the first and fourth EP's are on Shockwave, the second is on Underground Resistance, and the third is on Rephlex. Shockwave is part of the Submerge family of labels, as is UR. I don't think Drexciya is really "signed" to any particular label: I would think that some enterprising larger label would be interested in licensing the existing stuff for compilation onto CD (take this as a *big* hint to the Warp and Astralwerks spies on IDM) (grin)... ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services _ marmoset@msen.com freeke puts the free in freak

I haven't read this interview, but I hear from Richie that James of Drexciya called the +8 kids a bunch of rich white kids.. From talking with James on the phone, I know he's a little high strung, but that is flat out bullshit.. I will continue to admire the strong Red Planet and Drexciya releases, and hope that this sort of territorial jealous and name calling can be overcome.. Now let 's get back to the music, shall we? as far as i know Drexciya is still a mystery for the most part. i found these links online: http://techno.ca/cognition/drexciya.htm http://www.phinnweb.com/links/artists/drexciya/ http://www.etronik.com/section.asp?sectionId=12&IssueId=20 i think that they have strong ties to the Underground Resistance thing, having appeared on one of their compilations at least. Also, I've heard rumors that they may be partially or completely responsible for the Gigolo label projects Japanese Telecom and Dopplereffekt (I'm quite sure these 2 overlap with one another, if not with Drexciya) as well as Other People Place on Warp. I haven't heard the OPP release but I really like JT and Dopplereffekt... sometimes very cheesy stuff, especially Doppler's fake German aliases and porno/mannequin fascinations. :-) I don't necessarily think they have a strong classical background from hearing the music myself, but it's possible I guess. I think "The Quest" has some more interesting moments though than the newest one (although I really like the newest one too, despite its 4-on-the-floor tendencies that seem to rub people the wrong way) so I would recommend checking that out if you haven't already. matt

Yep, Drexciya is definitely doing the Other People Place alias and if you have not yet picked it up, please do so. It is hints of Detroit electro elements and deep, otherworldy funk at its finest...some crazy vocal samples that are a perfect, humorous contrast to the somewhat dark nature of the tracks. I am curious to hear others' opinions, as the LP is pretty straightforward with no real bells and whistles, but it still grabs me by the balls...beautiful in a strange sort of way... J~

just got an email from clone.nl whom i did email, basically saying that no, we can't really tell you all the details obviously, but yes, regarding drexciya everything is settled 'properly' as kent said they are quite well respected so that's nice to know and i'll take their word for it. nice to see that such a legend as drexciya is still treated with respect.
