It is rumoured to be Bernard Sumner of New Order (saying this to the light engineers), sampled from some NO bootleg. It has been mentioned million times before, and it is written in almost any sample-id list ;) It is Bernard Sumner from New Order, their live performance on Glastonbury'87, taken from some bootleg. i think so. i was always under the impression that that track is from a live set and he's yelling at a member of the audience or crew or something. i think i read somewhere that some of those tracks were broadcast (via ISDN, of course) from live venues, but i'm not sure. jeff ________________________ glueslabs@home.com icq: 59895018 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's possible, but since ISDN was broadcast and performed live from FSOL's *studio*, the concert patter and audience noise is more of a joke on the idea of live performance than actual peripheral noise. It's kinda funny -- they're warming up the synthesizers, yelling at the sound guy to stop fooling around so they can start playing... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Which brings to mind Mixmaster Morris' excellent quote from Modulations about FSOL being so anti-social, they didn't even bother attending their own performances anymore (I forget the exact wording, but it was very funny indeed). it's better than dead cities and almost as good as lifeforms. it's, well, it's tight. go run out and pick it up.. some low, dubby stuff.. then noisy.. some ambient doodling. atmosphere. very nice record. / wells // www.submute.net --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Here's a reply to the message "RE: [idm] fsol- isdn.. an old question." written on Fri, 16 Jun 2000 10:32:06 -0700:

ISDN's closest to Lifeforms, seeing as all that material was pretty much written around the same time. Other things worth looking out for are FSOL's 2 hour broadcast on R1, which contains exclusive material not found on Lifeforms or ISDN. They also did an interview on R3's "Mixing It" show(*). Well, the Mixing It interviewer recorded it, send FSOL the DAT and they fucked around with it, creating a 30 minute sound collage/interview hybrid. You'll only find off-air copies of these though. Fortunately, I had the good sense to record them. Which reminds me -- I must slap them down onto MD before something happens to the tapes I recorded them on. Other FSOL stuff to look out for includes an album they did under the name Amorphous Androgynous called "Tales of Ephidrina". Stylistically, it sits pretty much inbetween "Accelerator" and "Lifeforms". There's also another album on Jumpin' & Pumpin' called "Earthbeat". It's made to look like a compilation album, but it's basically shit loads of FSOL tracks under various pseudonyms. All the tracks predate "Accelerator", but there's some excellent stuff there, in a late 80s/early 90s progressive house kind of way. Myself and a couple of mates produced a similar album, also on Jumpin' & Pumpin', entitled "Trance Trippin'" -- again, it was designed to look like a compilation album, but was just about three or four of us pissing around. I've also got a 12-inch by Metropolis (a FSOL pseudonym) which is very "Accelerator"-ish. (*) Mixing It is a weekly series on BBC's R3. I usually forget it's on half the time, which is a bit suicidal, since they've featured some great stuff in the past. R3 is essentially a classical station, but the Mixing It show introduces listeners to a whole rich tapestry of sounds from around the world. There's been lots of electronica featured in previous years -- Autechre, BOC, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Pole and Arovane have all been featured heavily in the past. Last year, they did a Warp special. I've got that on MD -- basically a 35 minute interview with Rob & Steve describing the history of the label. I must get around to RA/MP3ing it sometime for everyone. Another Mixing It special I've got on MD is a Graham Massey & Graham Clarke 30 minute set, with a 10 minute snatch of Lamb's support. Pity they had to cut away from Lamb's set to finish the show (it was broadcast live from the venue). Check out the Mixing It web site at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/mixing/index.shtml Check out the fact sheets there for details on the sort of artists they feature on their programmes. For UK electronica fans, it's seriously worth keeping an eye (or ear) on. Damn, just checked out some shows I've been missing. May 6th -- Kid Spatula, Biosphere and Gonzales! April 8th - Max Tundra and Amon Tobin! March 25th -- Mira Calix and Depeche Mode! March 11th -- Speedy J, Third Eye Foundation! March 4th -- Kid Koala, Yo La Tengo and Recoil! <sigh> I really must get a decent FM tuner hooked up to my MD player and record all these bastards. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yes, it is a fine programme, but I've still not got used to it being on Saturday night, after being Monday night for so long. Also worth a listen is Late Junction, Monday to Wednesday, which is much less "idm" but equally stimulating.
