About a month I wrote to this mailing list about what equipment I need to create electronic music and I got back several messages all saying that it doesn't matter what I use but what I do with the software. So I continued looking. I got Cakewalk Pro Audio but the program by itself is very limited. DOes anyone have any advice or now af any website that would give me information on a complete set-up of Electronic equipment software/hardware that would be compatable with CakeWalk and would allow me many posibilities. I want to be able to create as much music as posible with using the least amount of samples. THanx for any imfo you can give me. well it really depends on your price range if you're set on not using a sampler, i'd recommend the Nord Modular synth. I just picked one up last week and it's simply amazing. there's also a slightly less full-featured version called the micro modular which runs around US$500-600 or if you want the Full Monty, get the $1500 Modular Keyboard. essentially it's a software recreation of the old keith emerson/walter carlos wall-of-knobs modular systems except it fits on your desk and does some things that the old analogue systems would never be able to do. anyway, enough drivel. it's the shit. more flexible than any instrument i've ever owned. but it's also the most complicated thing ive ever owned. if you're just starting out maybe you want something simple. I saw luke vibert play an amazing set with 90% of his sounds coming out of a Yamaha QY-70, which is about the size of a VHS cassette. You can probably find one of those for like $300 used, $400 new. editorial: personally i think samplers are great, they allow for much more textural variation than a synth. just because you're using a sampler doesn't mean you have to just jack beats from break records. there's a whole world o sound out there and a good sampler will let you flex creative just as any other instrument will. you can take my ESI4000 away when you pry it from my cold dead fingers. or give me an Emulator. anyway, good luck hope this helps josh -- String Theory Gear Whore Manipulation Foundation http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/

Here it is!!! Forget about synths, trackers, sequencers etc. They are now obsolete, since everything you need is right here in the Modular Websynth! ;) This *is* pretty wild and strange - the Solo "pads" are quite fun to play with... http://www.eye4u.com/showroom/websynth/websynth.htm (I hope you don't mind the tongue-in-cheek reply. I just found the Modular Websynth today and had a blast playing around with it!) :) enjoy! :: e v a n k. s t o n e :: r e c o m b i n a n t ------------------------------ :: mailto:evan@mmlive.com :: http://www.metro.net/estone :: http://www.mp3.com/recombinant (coming soon)
