I don't buy very many mixed cds, but I was itching to hear how somebody else would put together the music I spin. I came accross "Ikon Massive" mixed by Mikebee. Nice. Very, very, very nice. Here is the track Listing: Future Bound "The Ephemeris" (Timeless) Funky Technicians "Fever" (Jazz Cartel Remix)" (Timeless) Barracuda "Earth Angel" (Cosmic Flux) Cujo "Paris Streatham" (Ninebar) Abstract Truth "Get another plan" (Streetwave) -- Flytronix Remix Funky Technicians "Day by day" (Deltawave) Jazz Cartel "Expand" (Creative Wax) Squarepusher "Port Rhombus" (Warp) In Deep "Electro Solution" (Urban Flavour) J. Davis "Proper Things" (Cosmic Flux) Like he admits in the liner notes, the first few mixes don't have a whole lot of cross-fade action, but they really set the mood down. The Barracuda track is incredible! The depth of sound and emotion is unreal. Does anybody know if that track is still available on vinyl? He really chills it out and lays down the smooth jazzy atmospherics before bringing in Cujo and working his way into more intricate breakbeat programming culminating with the mighty Squarepusher. From there he chills it back down and brings the ship back to port smoothly, safe, and sound. Overall I think it's programed very interestingly and it shows me that you don't always have to try to go for the ultra-intricate mixes for it to sound good. Sometimes the right cut can keep the same mood going. Go Mikebee! :) I also had UPS bring me The bombshelter DJs Z-Trip and Radar: Live at the Future Primitive Soundsessions Volume Two). This is some of the most wicked scratching, cutting, and mixing I've ever heard. They successfully bring together Steve Miller, some of the sweetest sweetest breakbeats of all time, The Wall, LL Cool J, and Aerosmith into one seemless blend. They sound like the Coldcut JDJ CD, except that it's live and on 5 tables -- no samplers and no overdubbing. INTENSE! This CD made me want to scrap my plans of a sampler and instead invest in a Vestax 05 PRO. Rip it Bombshelter DJs! Has anybody heard the above mix? I like most of the stuff Coldcut does and was wondering whether or not the mix is worth tracking down. I recently bought "Tone Tales from Tomorrow Too" mixed CD and it's excellent. Does anybody know if there are anymore Coldcut mixed CDs out there worth finding? I have the JDJ and Cold Crush Cuts already. I also have DJ Food's "Blech II". Is the first one still available? Check out "Stoned Chilled Groove" mixed by Coldcut and Strictly Kev. A very nice selection of downtempo beats. -paul peterson --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, there's "Tone Tales From Tomorrow", which precedes the one you have, but is just about impossible to find. However, there's also a CD called "Stoned...Chilled...Grooved", which is domestic (USA) and widely available. It's quite good and in the same style as "Tone Tales...": http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=874189692/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/ArtistID=COLDCUT/DDCN=SD-66462+1+2 - Bob Weisend - rweisend@falcon.csc.calpoly.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Also the Tone Tales From Tommorrow Volumes One and Two which are tracks from the NTone label. Very dreamy ambient tracks mixed by Coldcut. --- Paul Peterson <paul@bartoli.org> wrote:
