Commercial: s/t? Darla DRL-093 Minimalist? demented instrumental pop from Hell. Where Boards of Canada might take their seventies analog influences and disguise them in downtempo IDM trappings, these guys (Trevor Holland and Sean O'Neal) are completely unashamed to wear Sesame Street and Atari on their sleeve. 3-2-1 Contact! Embeds a permanent, J.R. Bob Dobbs smile on your face while you commit unmentionable crimes against humanity. Ends on an uplifting beatless number, perfect for mopping up all that blood. Maybe it's just me, but this kind of repetitive ultra-happiness is truly the most subversive music you can buy, stepping beyond even µ-ziq's cutesiest moments. Sampled curses (Christ! Shit!) are dabbled about here and there to indicate that yes, this pair knows exactly the kind of damage they're doing. More approaching-millenium terminal-irony stuff to confirm that no, nothing is sacred, especially not if it has to do with childhood. Tom
