i highly doubt you need to sell anyone on the IDM list on Ae... but, what does Funkstorung have to do with Ep7? and (i guess this is open to everyone, +apologies if all this ground was covered back when the Warp version came out) what do you find so amazing about Ep7? and while we're on the topic, does anyone else get totally wierd vibes from, i think it's track 7, on ep7? it's the one that starts out with the loop of the kettle drums... that track is totally odd. it's got those preset-esque harpsichord/bell making a very unlike-ae melody. the track gives me chills.. not because it's scary or anything, but the whole production and choice of voices sound like Sean and Rob made it on a .Mod tracker or something.. although, the track with the melody that gets increasingly Sonic Decimatored until it has been degraded to static is pretty slick. ,rj../ ___,">www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1

I'm regarding that track as the standout track of the ep at the moment. I love the melodies, and thank god autechre are still using killer sub bass :-)

i thought the idm dream was to listen to something that makes you feel smarter than the average bear.. :P i agree that there is plenty of music that needs to be listened to repeatedly to be enjoyed, mr bungle's first album works that way for me, simply because the structure of their songs is usually more complex (ie far more parts than simple verse chorus verse format) and unless one knows what to expect, it sounds like a mess because they change what they are doing so rapidly.. EP7 isn't that complicated though. most songs feature either a very straightforward or very sporadic beat and a few tracks have a melody w/pad sounds as well; not too challenging. most of the content of the album is them playing with timbre.. not complicated, often boring. my only problem with people saying listen again and again and again until you like it about autechre is that if it wasn't autechre, you wouldn't be listening again and again. listen again and again to, say, Soul Coughing, or Tool ;) and i bet almost every listmember here would find something they like, some kind of richness or depth or other such vague term. and again .. if someone doesn't like something, it's okay for them not to like it, they don't have to listen again and again; i've listened to EP7 enough times to understand it, how it works, and it hasn't made me love it much more, if at all. the idea seems to be that autechre is such incredibly good music that anyone who doesn't like it, doesn't like it because they don't understand it, and if they DO somehow manage to comprehend the "majestic depths", the "hidden synergy of the sonic structure", etcetc, then they'll suddenly fall in love with the music. that's just silly, ae is good but not that good. i don't think anyone can be that good.. anyway, i dont know why im such a sourpuss today; im not anti-ae or anything, just don't like EP7 much is all. :) and this isn't directed at any one person in particular, btw, it is just a mentality i'm addressing, i guess. peace noah
