What can any resdident Musos tell me about this guy? I'm spinning his new one and loving it more every second...GREAT stuff. Initially it sounded like a rather sedate Uwe Schmidt crossed with the Basic Channel clan (heavy gating on the whooshes and clicks - done funky), but now it's veering off somewhere else......nice indeed. jeff -- dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." ( To answer a little of mine own question) and someone else's...it's on Undefined Records. Deep, minimal, butt-kicking, interesting. Here's a snip of a review I found. I'd still like to know more - f'rinstance, where can I find "Remodulations"? I'd be really grateful for this info. MATTHEW THOMAS: Architecture (UDR CD01) CD Somewhat obscure Oz-only import by experimental sound fabricator Matthew Thomas. Here's an album I found fascinatingly oblique yet at the same time highly accessible. Music modules for mind and body, formed of abstract synthetic parts and bolstered by a deep bass foundation and keen sense of motion. "Architecture" was recorded in 1997 before Thomas' ground-breaking album "Remodulations" (issued on Darrin Verhagen's stellar Dorobo imprint). Strong recommendation for all fans of unusual electronic music. Very limited so grab one while you can! jeff -- dancing/about/architecture "...with wandering steps and slow..." ICQ904008

Oh yes, Undefined. I believe Undefined is a sublabel of the Australian Juice label. Undefined has been around for like three or four years. They have like 15 records out so far from the likes of DJ HMC, Voiteck, Pawn, and Metamethod to name a few. In general the label does a lot of nice minimal techno and acid but, as the label names suggest, they do a lot of techno-sounding stuff that tries to defy classification. I've not hear the Matthew Thomas but definitely want to. I know that Juice has (or at least had) a website. I'll see if i can dig up the url for it... -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

This album sounds somewhat interesting. However, I disagree with the tagging of Thomas's Remodulations as "ground-breaking". I found it quite pointless and boring as all fuck. Here's a review I wrote for a rag I write for... MATTHEW THOMAS _remodulation (Dorobo/Soleilmoon) Random electronic tones and static. Whoopdie doo. Maybe there's a point I'm missing, but thanks to the glaring lack of liner notes, track titles and any other information, I guess we'll never know. Ah, fuck it, I just don't have the patience for this sort of stuff anymore. Wake me when it's over, would ya? Note that I normally have no beef with minimal, experimental or otherwise "difficult" electronic music. But this disc left me really cold. Anyway, for the person who was wondering where to find this, I've already dumped my copy, but I believe you can get it from www.soleilmoon.com if you're still interested. Greg
