Front End Synthetics proudly presents: ?The Ground Floor?/FSYNTH001
Front End Synthetics has been established to provide a platform for a myriad of
highly talented local artists primarily in the field of experimental electronic
music, and in doing so to contribute with all the other individuals currently
working outside the boundaries of mainstream culture in Dublin and beyond, to
bring together a music scene to rival that of anywhere on the planet.
The Ground Floor, Front End Synthetics? debut release, is a compilation of some
of the finest intelligent electronic music emerging from Dublin?s blossoming
underground scene:
Street Thunder: Automatic Weapon
Stomping retro strut music, the perfect opener from this shadowy collective.
Trev: 3 fat ladies
Extremely nice counterpoint to the Street Thunder track, a vaguely unsettling
but ultimately sweet brain-tickler from Ambulance?s Trev.
Droid n Slug: Lollygigger
Local, much loved DJs from the Bassbin camp provided us with an intricately
fearsome piece of robo-electronics.
Mcut: Gibblichaun
A slightly different departure from local techno\electro queen Mcut, Gibblichaun
is a minute and a half of flailing, chaotic psycho-acoustics.
It's a Miracle Productions present The Soul Gun Warriors in?Robotboy?s Blues
Multimedia theatre group, The Soul Gun Warriors? Deadman and Perspective have
brought us this part of their latest work in the form of breakbeat theatre. The
piece in this collection, ?Robotboy?s Blues? featured in Escape Routes Volume 1
(Gravitational Pull), is a haunting lament set to an atmospheric, skilfully
minimalist soundtrack.
The Alpha Incident: Lips
A blistering, excellently produced debut from the electronic side project of
Andrew Clarke of fast rising post-rock unit Connect Four Orchestra and formerly
Palomine.
New Dark Age: Innards
Consisting of lo-fi drum & bass innovator The Alchemist and Diarmuid Dermody,
known improvisational terrorist and erstwhile member of Dead Plants, Das Madman
and Luc and the Platelets, New Dark Age?s first studio outing is an accomplished
jazzy number with a drum ?n? bass feel.
Anodyne: Darkest
About to release his second album, ?Restarter\Hazard X? with U:mack, sometime
Skam Records collaborator Anodyne spreads himself around, giving us a dark,
pounding slab of industrial breakbeat-techno.
Dunk: Eau de Nollag
Ambulance?s Dunk, also responsible for the graphic design on the album, makes a
solo debut that is quite beautiful, trickling delightfully complex chord
structures and changes that tug at the heartstrings and fog the mind.
John Braine: La Belle Shyanne
Headspace Recordings? John Braine serves up a superb slice of sharp electronic
house.
Thinker Org: Blöde
Improvisational composer Simon O? Connor of Thinker Org, also currently working
on an opera, provides what at first listen appears to be the hardest piece on
the album, but is actually quite an upbeat, highly intricate song. In his own
words ?like a sweet elastic band stretching slowly? ?til you can see the
sweets.?
Booger: Majik
Popular resident at U: Mack?s Softswing night at Switch (under his real name
Tóirse), Ambulance remixer Booger?s first solo outing is a distinctly
atmospheric house number which, along with Street Thunder?s Automatic Weapon is
crying out for dancefloor exposure.
Decal: Soft Swing
Need we say anything about these guys? A decidedly laid back melancholic classic
from the consistently excellent Decal, who are currently remixing (and being
remixed by) Two Lone Swordsmen.
Ambulance: Air Hostess
With an EP out on Decal?s U:mack imprint and work on an album already under way
as well as two solo works from Dunk and Trev on this album, the exceptional
Ambulance appear to be set to storm the electronic world. Air Hostess is the
perfect closing tune; swooping and beautifully chilled, with a decidedly
nostalgic feel.
Thank you for your time...
