Hmmm, well, the fact that coldcut are political I think are one of their strengths... particularilly in the way they go about it, which, unlike Consolidated (which were appropriate in their time... regan/bush etc... eek!) doesn't involve excessive ranting. And well, as for clear cutting, I'm sure the Kirklan Warbler did just fine pre lumber co's. Not to mention the _many_ other species that don't "benifit" from clearcutting like the Warbler... Living, not to mention treeplanting, in british columbia's let me see a lot of it first hand. Driving through 60 miles of clear cuts doesn't lend one to think that the logging co's are acting with a sence of enviromental responsibility. I think rape and pillage would be more appropriate. In the west we're _starting_ to realise that there are smarter ways to go about logging, which the Scandinavian countries have already demonstrated, however, a lot of the multinationals have now moved into 3rd world countries such as Indonesia, not to mention Russia, and are clearcutting everything in sight... anyways, I'll stop ranting later q -------------- Upcoming Gigs: March 26th, w/Vapour Space, Phil Western (live), Perfume Tree, Drop Modulation and Dub Gnostic ... -------------- hold onto your chairs...Gravity taking a hiatus, sad but true... somethings in the works though... http://www.hqcommunications.com/gravity.htm -------------- syntext@lightspeed.bc.ca http://www.hqcommunications.com/syntext.html

Noticed today that my last message went through sans-text. So, I'll try again. Howdy, I picked up the Coldcut "Timber" ep today. Was kind of skeptical as I wasn't overly thrilled with the original, but the remixes are quite good and breathe some life into the track. Have yet to watch the videos though. (Why'd they have quality mpegs on the first disc in the series, but the more recent only offer lesser grade quicktime videos?) Question: Who is Bundy K. Brown? (Rather liked his mix). Though Ninja did it again as I think the vinyl has a mix or two that isn't on the cd (and vice-versa too). Oh-well. [note: Now it's great and all that they want to get political, but there damnation of clearcutting procedures are kind of off base. Clearcutting, done right, can be a vital and important part of a healthy habitat and ecosystem. Creates edge and allows shade intolerant species, such as Jack Pine <home of the endangered Kirklan Warbler bird>, to grow. I think they should be more careful on their politics. Don't want to become another Consolidated, who got so mired in their message that they began to sound as bad as the fascists they were condemming.] JJTar btw--Listening now to the first disc of the new Not Breathing. Very interesting stuff that would probably be enjoyed by many of y'all IDM folks. (Especially the very powerful track 6 "Chunky Monkey"...silly name, but great track!) Oddly enough the recent Fugazi related 12" <I forget the name> had a track that y'all would enjoy too (the b-side...new recording, as opposed to the a-side which is garage punk stuff from early 80's)...as well as the Jim O'Rourke produced track on the recent The Jesus Lizard ep. Odd stereo effects with the drums on both pieces without the annoyance of vocals. --- Peace Hugs and Unity, Jason J. No he only played bass on the first self titled LP. He is no longer with the band, but he did do a remix which is the b-side of the Luke Vibert remix 12".
