That moronic post about what garbage anything that's at all different from the "IDM classics" is reminded me - is there anything odd about the Chart Runners LP? In the book it said something about special things being discovered on the record through experimentation blah blah silly garbage... And there's more tracks listed than there are tracks. So I was curious if anyone found any extra grooves or other things... ObIDM: The first disc of Funkungfusion was surprisingly great; much better than the first disc of Flexistentialism, at least (which wasn't bad at all). I'm not usually a big fan of the Ninja style, but this was pretty different - dark, fat bass and beats, real catchy, bunch of very different takes on essentially the same style (electrofunk or whatever). Nice. Haven't listened to disc 2 yet... --- the humble abbott arthur purvis set his hand hereto

hello again, i've seen quite a few posts recently. what does everything think of this artist? it seems the only things i have gotten are just parodies or novelty items. i have never really heard anything "good" (i say that with great reservations of getting flamed by the list) in terms of idm stuff that is popular, at least. don't get me wrong, though. i love the "turkey" & "stuffing" releases that i have. i do think that mp3 only release on the diskono label is pretty good, though. maybe i'll take back all the previous stuff i said. anyway, i would like to know what other people think. thanks, peter --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

really, if i had to recommend anything from v/vm, it would be the machine series they put out.. though i think in this case it was more of a v/vm "label" release, it is VERY VERY well done.. if you like ambient drone/noise/loops/machines/crunchies.. v/vm, really, have the best sense of humour i have seen come out of the all-too-serious idm world .. and thats not to say that serious idm is not my thing.. or that v/vm are idm really :) i dont know.. the element of suprise, the goofy sound sources, the audio terrorism (much in the way of evolution control committee, negativland, et al) is rather fun. most of the time i have to be in the right mood, but really, at least its fun, ya know? but then again, i collect thrifty store records like mad and lovethe whole diy thing.. so... for what its worth, crhsi. some quick reasons to be grateful for vvm ... . years ago on a car ride, a guy put an old soul compilation in the worlds worst cassette player and cranked it. as the ensuing motorhead like racket screamed past my head and out of the window, i said "who is this?". "sam and dave" he replied. i have never heard sam and dave sound like that before or since. and now thanks to vvm i can say the same for chas and dave. . no limits. taking two basic ingredients, noise and pop cheese any given permutation is possible. noise. cheese. cheese w/ bit of noise, noise w/ a bit of cheese, cheese w/ a lot of noise... etc. also there is far more pop cheese out there than, say, the amen break, so the possibilities for surprise are endless. it also helps if you realise that as an aficionado of less mainstream music, pop novelties can be more like noise to you than noise can. . larger lumps of weasel. alien porno midgets. man in a pig suit. that would be humour then. . not prog enough for alternative press. -martin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

James at v/vm fancies himself a butcher - a butcher who specializes in meats, beats, and demented pop treats. His finished products are meant for entertaining consumption not groundbreaking electronic music. But v/vm is very capable of producing serious electronic music. For those who totally discount v/vm as musicians, I urge you to check out V/vm's The Stranger cd on the Phthalo label, their Fat Cat split 12" with Third Eye Foundation, plus their tracks on Priviledged Frames For Reference, 0161, Bleep Blip - Soundtracks For Imaginary Videogames, and Nature's Connecting Electronix Network 2xLP. These release & tracks are serious pieces of electronic music - not just digital wankery as many have dismissed al v/vm as. And speaking of V/vm, when they were in town a few weeks ago, James generously donated multiple copies of V/vm cds as giveaways on the Inaudible show. So tune in Wednesday for a chance to win some V/vm stuffs! Good good good! Really spooky. It's from the "serious" side of V/Vm.

It's awful, of course. :) Seriously - it's pretty wacky and all over the place, from goofy pop song deconstructions to full-on noise blasts. And more versions of "Mouldy Old Dough" than you could ever want. Definately NOT from the "serious" side of V/Vm.

I think these two discs are the perfect place to start as they give a great overview of anything V/Vm is about. If you don't have any v/vm stuff yet I would suggest that you try to listen before you buy. I tried to listen to the 2 discs of Aural Offal Waffle over the weekend. Although I do like it, I coulnd't make it through the second disc. Needed a break I guess. hess Hess Hodge | hess.hodge@colorado.edu | http://rtt.colorado.edu/~hodge On Mon, 6 Dec 1999, wells wrote:

This release to me actually proves how talented v/vm can be. Definitely an ambient listen but well worth it. It is beautifully executed. Think ball room music drenched in reverb, echo and other processing that somehow does not loose it's character. If ghosts danced they would dance to this. As a friend said to me when she heard it: "this is twisted but I like it." Definitely not the usual sonic terror they are known for. In my top 10 for 99. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://monkey.eliteware.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

***hmmm, as far from cheese as one can get. it is damn good. new stuff plus reinterpretations of the score from The Shining. very well done.

***nothing like the release mentioned above, that's for sure. this is the noisey/ripping-apart-the-songs-of-others/humorous v/vm plus cohorts like kid606 and others. this is a 52 track double cd with stuff all over the place, whereas the caretaker full length is quite thematic and flows from one track to the next. the album is moody and introspective, the comp is like a musical firecracker that has just exploded. hope this helps. andrew duke ps v/vm mailing list 2000 subscription up for grabs in the auction on cognition
