I don't know a whole lot about COA other than what they do is pretty much Breakbeat West Coast Style. I don't care Breakbeat, but if I were to buy West Coast Style BreakBeat, I'd go for Uberzone, esp since Q finally emailed me today:) Q is an excellent fellow as well as a very dedicated musician and performer. If you like electronica with that funky beat like Chem Bros throw into their music, this is similar but it's NOT CHEM BROS let's sound like ROCK, the beats are similar. I like Uberzone a lot, although I don't anything buy him. He's got an ep 8 tracker on City of Angels, I think it's called MOONDUST, or BOTZ, or something like that and He just released a new 12" this past month that a friend say is very good. Worth checking out, but not what most IDM'ers are after (meaning SKAM, Schematic, Rephlex, Isophlux stuff). If Q (uberzone) comes to your neighborhood to play live, go go go! Well worth seeing someone kick out the jams live. Since he (like me) was a drummer as a kid, he feels the needs to play the majority of the beats live. I appreciate this alot. He uses some drum triggers and that Roland SPDwhatever, sorta like the old Octapads....... good luck, gil

Quoting Edwin Wong (Edwin_Wong@kiwi.com): | Anyone heard of the City Of Angels label? I *think* Crystal Method are | under that label. No, they were earlier -- the single "Now is the time" was released on City of Angels (thus making it hard to get hands on here in Norway/Europe). All the releases from the "Keep hope alive" single to "Vegas" were (at least in Europe) released on the Sony S3 label. The connection to Moonshine btw, is that (as far as I've understood) Moonshine have licensed some songs to their compilations. | Are there any web sites? ...or at least any info on a | group called Uberzone. ...thanks. You'll find information on both Uberzone and Crystal Method (and City of Angels, I believe) on the Moonshine webpages: http://www.moonshine.com or e-mail them on feedback@moonshine.com Hope this is of any help. -- christian s. larsen aka beacon/sublevel3 --------- visit our ambient den http://www.sublevel3.org ----

City Of Angels is a local LA record label...Other then a bunch of Crystal Method releases and 2 or 3 Uberzone singles, I'm really not sure what else they've put out. Crystal Method is pretty much sub chem bros kaka: big beats, ultra distorted 303 and maybe even a guitar once in a while. Pretty much a bunch of rockstars, from what I've seen. ;-) Uberzone is another story. He's a local kid who's goes by the name 'Q' and has made some wicked new school electro tracks like 'Botz' and 'The Brain'. I use to have his homepage bookmarked but can't find it... I've run in to him a few times around town, including gonzi's birthday party where he was very surprised to find someone (yours truly) on the decks spinning detroit electro and miami bass. Seems like a really nice guy. He just put out a new single and has been working on his debut album for the last 6 months. I found a site that's got two tracks from the single in RA format: http://www.fuzzylogik.com/ubera.ram http://www.fuzzylogik.com/uberb.ram Although his tracks are all quite good and drive breakbeat fans crazy, I've noticed that they're all starting to sound very similar. That's all the info I got for tonight! word to the mothership, brock np: the tomb raider 2 cd

http://exo.com/~uberzone/ It's really out of date but you can at least drool over the older gear.

"The Freaks" just came out on City of Angels on vinyl and shows up on the CoA "White Noise" comp. I dunno if it will be released on cd. The White Noise comp also features tracks from other CoA guys (Crystal Method, Simply Jeff, Witchdockta) and some Skint/Wall of Sound blokes (Mekon, Midfield General, Hardknox) and a few others (Monkey Mafia). All of it in the big beat sound stylee. His remix of BT's "Peace Love and Grease" just came out. If anyone sees a copy of his remix of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" could they grab one for me (it might Japan only)? And he's been holed up for the last week working on a remix of Sarah McLachlan's "sweet surrender". I think he has a Simply Jeff remix scheduled after that and then the Uberzone album might get done...

Funny, that's what I thought everyone says about IDM ;) paul p.s. For LA shoppers only: duck over to Aron's and dig through the used bins. You MUST buy Atomic Hi-Fi (they had 3 copies last week). It's got some hard big beat/nu- skool electro and the DJ Demonixx "R2D2" track is gonna get somebody in a heap of trouble when George Lucas finds out. Anybody who likes the Jon Carter mixed cd's is gonna trip on this.
