There are two reasons why I currently don't like the Prodigy: 1.) Their live performance on the MTV video music awards, where keith literally drools, set me off as as just plain stupid. 2.) I've got an old tape, "the prodigy experience", which though dated is/was cool for it's time...the caliber of that music is much better than the crap being played on MTV...they've gone downhill. True, I've never listened to the whole new disc, but I've seen nothing that would make me even want to. And whoever said that IDM is not danceable is flat wrong. My def of IDM is music that I can BOTH dance to, or sit and listen to, because it has enough groove for the former, and enough depth for the latter. -jimg ps. I think the discussion is mainly focused on the output of Liam Howlett's musical skills, as compared to Keith Flint's lameness.

You haven't given the new disc even a complete listen (most people listen to new releases atleast 2-3 times before they really begin to grasp something), and yet you make blanket statements such as "they've gone downhill."

Another blanket statement. No one ever said "IDM" is not danceable. What they did say, however, is that a sizeable percentage of IDM is not immediately dance "worthy." I'd like to see you dance to Autechre's "Envane" release. I tend to think that music akin to Envane is better listened tositting down, and relaxed.

Name some IDM with these qualities, I ask, because I am curious of your own definition, not because I doubt the statement.

hmm... aphex's saw 85-92 comes to mind. especially "we are the music makers" and "xtal" (for me anyway) i love to just sit and take these in, but dancing to them is just as easy. in fact, most aphex stuff seems this way to me. lots of stuff on "i care...", "girl/boy" (which i think could also be adapted for a marching band - wouldn't that be something...), all kinds of stuff. that's all i'm going to think about for the moment. alan! np:sugar:fileundereasylistening

I don't agree with this, I cannot believe that you're actualy saying this. You probably have no moves or grooves . . . this funk makes you move can you get in the grove . . . . . 90% or more of Ae stuff is really danceable. For instance you mentioned Envane. First track (goz quarter) is total dancehiphopyfunkeeshit. . . you can dance your ass of on this one.
