For those in Europe, check out Party Zone tonight (in a few hours as I write this), there will be an interview with Arcon 2's label I think, Reinforced. They'll certainly show the videos for the mentioned tracks. i have only heard the neotropic remix and his stuff on the FSOL "we have explosive" single but those 4 tracks convinced me that Mr Mar is one serious talent to watch. the neotropic remix is seriously wonderful dark techstep in the edrush vein although unlike the other billion edrush imitators, it sounds fresh and original. the oil remixes on "we have explosive" are really great, i love the "funk" mix - it sounds like FSOL remixing Cameo, or vice versa... (if anybody wants to send me a DAT of the OIL "sleight of hand" 12" i will happily return it with a CDR for them. hell, just put up some MP3s of the single, that'll work just as well...)

allbite i'll write. here's what i know: leon mar "release the love/silent runnings" leon mar "tha men who fell to earth/running" arcon 2 "liquid earth1/liquid earth2" arcon 2 "the beckonging/skyland" arcon 2 "zorak/9090" arcon 2 "the beckoning" [album] oil "sleight of hand/incubus" the leon mar stuff (reinforced) is hardish with deep deep keys, almost souljazzish vocal highlights, and programming that rivals photek. very soulful stuff (i read somewhere he used to be an unsuccessful houseproducer) picture the prototype sound mixed in with 4 hero and you're getting there. the arcon 2 stuff (also reinf.) loses the jazz, multiplies the drum programming complexity factor by 10, and drops in some serious lustmord-esque ambience. very dark, but without any of the cliches. (though the odd distorted three-note b-line does turn up) there are remixes of neotropic, fsol (havent heard) and j.majik the oil record is on ebv (fsol's label) it's kind of dark, funky trip-hop with a disco sensibility and some twisted out distorted guitars. good not great. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I guess that's 'cos he is less well known and Reinforced have a less wider distribution network than Virgin. The singles from Arcon 2 weren't pushed as hard as those from Modus, so therefore less people have them and are dissapointed that they are also on the LP. Hidden Camera and Ni-Ten were some of the best and most ancipated releases at their time and were very well known, so for them to turn up on the LP again was a bit much...

Can't comment on this, but I have been tempted to pick it up in the last week, but it had vanished from my local store. I am in two minds as to whether it will be any good or not. I love his remix of Neotropic but a whole LP like this could be a bit much. Having said that I know there will be lots of less hectic tracks on there. I just wish more drum and bass artists treated an album as more than a bunch of singles and a few 'experimental' chilled out tracks. Why can't we have the best of both worlds, raw drum and bass that is deep enough to listen to at home for the length of an LP? As you can guess, I'm still waiting on a really decent solo artist drum and bass album. :-) Gb. --- £ "LWTCDi" Advent Madness - A New Feature Every Day... http://www.homeusers.prestel.co.uk/lwtcdi/all/ £ "VIRTUAL JUKEBOX" Still online. Just picked up the Arcon 2 album today on vinyl. Very annoying that it only features six tracks over three peices of vinyl, especially when they're short and the pressing wouldn't have suffered from stuffing a few more on. Does anyone have the CD version and can tell we what I'm missing track wise and sound wise? (And yes, I have done a web search for Arcon 2/Reinforced and came up with nothing). What I got isn't that exciting to these ears, although it is good in places. Anyone got any comparisons with this and his work as Oil on EBV? I agree totally with Irene. I think we both have the vinyl verions, which missed a lot of the good stuff which can on 12" before it, but still this LP is highly dissapointing and contained nothing of real interest to me as a devout junglist. If you like your industrial gloomy doomy drum and bass then it might be for you, but otherwise stay well away. I really regret buying it. Having said that, I agree with John that his Neotropic mix is a killer, and I rate his track on the new Enforcers comp too. He's scheduled to have a new LP coming on Reinforced this year. The Arcon 2 debut sounded like really old material, so with luck the new stuff will be about 1000 times better. Either way I'll be listening before I buy this time.
