Yeah, pretty good. Only really listened to it once or twice so far. Two stand-out tracks and two more breaky, funky tracks.

I kind of disagree - _Inspiration_ (first Stasis album I think) is prime Steve Pickton material. Has some of my favourite IDM tracks on it. _From the Old to the New_ was interesting but it kind of heralded the arrival of Steves new sound - working with breaks and more funky sounds and kind of dropping the chords and Detroit sound a bit. This is what disappoints me slightly about Steve's stuff nowadays. Some of his stuff has the tendency to meander along without really doing much (like his 12" on Multiplex) but occasionally he hits the spot completely. Both those albums on Peacefrog. He also did the Paul W. Teebrooke _Connections_ LP on Op-ART but again, this kind of trod similar ground to _From the Old to the New_ so I haven't really listened to it much. || [CiM] || simonw@sol.ftp.com || -

I haven't heard any of the early Stasis material, so I can't really comment from that angle, but I have to say that-in my opinion- _Connections_ is brilliant. The new sound you speak of, all processed breaks and weird metallic sounds, can initially sound a bit harsh and obscure what else is going on, but after a few listens it all comes together. And the Detroit spirit-warm soul vs. cold machinery-is definitely still there. Newskool electronics that actually deserves that description. -arjun THE MAUSOLEUM / http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu (with apologies to W.C. Faulkner) / /~arjun/mausoleum/head.shtml
