Now while we are on the subject, the live shows situation
here in Finland is pretty shit. Of course, we can see
someone like Prodigy (not too hard for the rock'n'roll
audiences to comprehend) here in festivals, but if you want
something going more to the direction of IDM, for example,
you have to travel to Sweden or other neighbouring civilized
countries... As someone who has become a kind of unofficial
spokesman - whether I wanted it or not ;) - for Finnish
scene abroad, it's always so hard to explain international
people that it's actually pretty grim here, even
though we have some names like Sähkö, Panasonic or Jimi
Tenor. If something happens here, it's very underground,
and you won't hear about it in the local media, that's
for sure, and probably most teenybopper ravers don't know
about it and couldn't care less.
Of course, we get occasionally to commercial raves some
bigger names (so far LFO, Aphex Twin, Underground Resistance,
DJ SS, DJ Krust and Roni Size have been to Finland), but if
they are organised by DJ Elliot Ness, who's responsible for
all the biggest techno events in Finland (the problem is that
he's the only one here with money, organisation and connections
to get anything done), you can be pretty sure there will be
cancellations, and if you've bought a ticket to see, for
example, Jeff Mills, you have to be also ready that he won't
come, and all you're left with are some shitty commercial
Mayday DJs, like Westbam or Marusha and thousands of drunken
teenage ravers... Gladly there are this July Interr-Ference
and Acid Junkies coming to play to a party in a town called
Jyväskylä, and what's best, it's *not* organised by Elliot
Ness, so I'll keep my fingers crossed it will happen :)
