eh? it's nothing, REPEAT, *NOTHING* to do with profit; for fucks sake pressing the thing up in the first place and giving them away for free must have cost us nearly a grand. it's just something we want to do right? why don't you just accept it. we probably could make money from it if we wanted to, give it a fancy cover, sell it as an exclusive mix, exclusive tracks etc - but we're not, because that's not what we're about - as many people have said - whilst it's good it's not that good and certainly doesn't warrant a full album release. it about a principle. the principle is copyright and almost none of you seem to understand it. g.

"Not what we're about" ? HAB 1 & 2, Mira Calix, Woodenspoon - were these made in such limited editions out of a selfless love of the music and a desire to give it the audience it deserves? You're the one that misunderstands copyright. Miles

yawn. why are you lot so belligerent? the limited edition thing is such a boring arguement. they're limited to the people that would buy them, (i should have a macro for that line) do you really belive we could sell more than a couple of thousand woodenspoons? well if you do you don't know anything about the current market for this music. we don't make any more money from limited editions than anything else, they all have the same dealer prices. just makes things a bit more interesting. singles generally don't make money full stop. i'm here on this list to provide information about warp and answer sensible questions i'm not a polician warp don't have a manifesto to hold to, we are accountable to no one but our artists and the inland revenue. if you don't like what we do don't buy our records and shut up. wrt to copyright i'm sure you'd find yourself on the sharp pointy end of the wrath of any major label if you started pressing CDs and giving them away. g.

This is probably true... As much as it disappoints me, greg is probably all too correct in saying it'd be a waste for them to press up copies of the Ae radio show... or any of the other above releases (though limited repressings would be REAL nice =) I don't particularly agree with the big deal made over some fans wanting to put together a run of TEN cds of music otherwise unavailable to them (ok, in this format... its not like we don't buy EVERYTHING Ae puts out) but we didn't make the music, we didn't release it... not that I wouldn't partake in such an event =) Heh, I like the music... I go without food & smokes for music... its a disorder or something...

Um, not for the guy who pays $60-100 for it if he doesn't get a copy when it comes out =) I emailed 4th World about MASK 002, but never got a return mail... assume I've missed it by now... wonder how much that'll run me... (so what if its not Warp, it was a convienent example)

True, unless its Skinny Puppy material, and then they ask if they can get copies of your boot material for official release (ie, the 2cd Brap set... cevn key listened to material from the AEDP fan made cassette, thought he might be able to use some of it for the official release Brap... too bad more bands didn't take this approach... they pretty much say, 'screw bootleggers who make money... leave it to the fans, who do it for the love of the music... they usually do a better job...' Don't believe Nettwerk had a problem with it, nor Capital, who distributes in the US...) anyways, can't believe I participated in this discussion... anyone have a copy of MASK 002 they wish to part with? np: Alaura , Sacred Dreams (surprising nice) __________________________________________ sfwd@sonic.net LToN DiY Noise.Ambient.Techno.Industrial HomeRecordings & Such 4 Cheap ($3) http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ (add your wasted time to our catalog)

Ya, they're really going all out with making EVERYTHING puppy available now... I think its interesting, particularly where so many bands use the puppy sound anyhow... why not cash in on it... The entire subconcious label seems to be moving in a much more idm/techno direction than industrial presently... I, personally, am glad... Haujobb (I always seem to associate Download and Haujobb for obvious reasons) also are changing direction and will be putting out material that is much more idm-techno than previously (appearently moreso than their last release...) Their Matrix may be out by now (at least as an import to all us US folks) and it also has a sample cd... Hey, we just talked about MUSIC =) What a novel idea... __________________________________________ sfwd@sonic.net LToN DiY Noise.Ambient.Techno.Industrial HomeRecordings & Such 4 Cheap ($3) http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ (add your wasted time to our catalog)

It's a good thing, then, that Warp's nowhere near being a major label. I.

Hmmm ... do you really believe that you couldn't sell more than a couple of thousand 'Radio' cd's? Probably more so than a Woodenspoon 12", or a nice shiny Mira Calix 10". Wanna bet? I miss the old Warp. I.
