Yes, after 4 years or so of Cantamilla & that other track showing
up on compilations & piquing your interest, TB finally releases
an album. However, an advance warning: many who loved "Cantamilla"
may in fact be disappointed. This is all new material, nothing
from the 12"s on exist dance here. It also is a big departure
from the sound of those singles too. "5 miles high" sounds
a bit like Santana meets Fila Brazilia (w/ some vocals,
by Mike himself I assume: "Freedom out on the air...",
these vocals are not necessarily going to win over fans
of "Cantamilla"). Although i winced when i first heard them,
after a few listens, i don't feel they're all that bad.
"LaLaLa" is the most like Cantamilla in that it uses a world
music sample along w/ other female vocals that sound quite
nice. "The Bird" features a slow beat, saxophone, piano,
& some spoken word samples to give it that world music feel...
"Soldier's Sweetheart" is the real clincher...Mike doing
a # that sounds like some (vaguely) (US) southern fold singer
doing a tune on MTV unplugged...that's right only Mike &
his acoustic guitar. The comparisons will probably
fly on this one (in the trades), but the one comes to mind most
often is Beck (but w/ less vocals & a little mellower).
