gescom key nell
this was probably my favorite this year, due to its very
innovative and fresh approach to adding melody to what are otherwise the
majority of headbanging or otherwise silly tracks i've heard all year --
also the shortest, but the quality of tracks was so high i can't complain
mike and rich expert knob twiddlers
i know, i know -- cheese all the way through. but after
listening to it god knows how many times, it just does something for me.
reminds me alot of some mid-80s AoN lounge-lizard tracks; nostalgia for
childhood, perhaps?
cylob cylobian sunset
some tracks on this disc just stand out like sore
appendages. bazfoul, fiod, and i left my heart in syntax error are sweet
and powerful at the same time. a must have in anyone's electronic
collection
squarepusher feed me weird things
i'll go out on a limb and say that it is a pretty damn
good record, for someone's first major release. probably should not have
received the amount of hype it did, but i'm glad that it was brought to
everyone's attention on the list, anyways. stand out tracks include
windscape 2, theme from ernest borgnine, and kodack.
future sound of london
dead cities
i'm an fsol fan to begin with, so i'm a little biased in
saying i was looking forward to this release. but i'll be as objective as
possible and say that, once you get past the first two songs, and track
nine, this could have been record of the year. my kingdom, glass, and
antique toy are very good pieces. you get the usual FSOL atmosphere from
listening to this.
take care,
Alex Reynolds
