I don't know if anyone has noticed or commented (I'm still way behind on the mail), but the title of The Black Dog's new album is rather similar to that of an old Eno album, "Music For films". Wasn't there a "Music for Adverts" too.? But what also struck me was the similarity in the sleeve art between the new BD album and Eno's "Ambient 4 - On Land". Could they by any chance be related? I think we should be told. No, there wasn't - but there are in fact 3 albums in the Music for Films series. I remember about 3 years ago someone did an lp called "Music for Toilets" whose title I assumed to be a spoof reference to Eno. > But what also struck me was the similarity in the sleeve art between > the new BD album and Eno's "Ambient 4 - On Land". I sort of assumed this was a deliberate overt reference to Eno, but maybe there is actually some cabbalistic significance.... adam

FM: The album's front cover is highly reminiscent of Music for Airports... Ken Downie: And Eno's On Land series, yes. I'm being a bit cheeky.....Those geezers don't own things: Glass doesn't own counterpoint, Eno doesn't own ambient. It's like trying to wrestle the flag off them.

Isn't the title as someone has suggested a dig at Aphex,Underworld etc. ie people who sell their music to the highest corporate bidder to be used as the soundtrack for adverts - geddit! "Music for Adverts". The dog always liked these in joke titles, remember - Black Dog "Bytes" Knowing Ken's sense of humour , this would fit in!!! s.m.@4th world records uk http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4thworld on now - Metalheadz - Platinum Breaks

Lets not forget Jean Michel Jarre's "Music for Supermarkets", of which there is only one copy of on this planet. _________________________________________________________________ Matthew D.
