Outcast did an amazing remix of Bjorks `Hyperballad` on the `its oh so quiet` CD single, called the `over the edge remix` i think. Its a extremely heavily distorted (the stuff AFX fans can only dream of) mix with a cut up barely recognisable Bjork. Its one of those increasingly rare tracks that makes you think `what the f*** is that?!` it borders on nine inch nails stuff so i`m told (i wouldn`t know). If the albums of similar quality it`ll be something special. Any fans of AFX/wierd techno should check out the remix. NeilOthen

I giggle with glee every time I listen to this & think about your typical Bjork fan listening to it. I hope Bjork continues to let Beau and Black Dog remix her stuff. Che

Don't laugh, this seems to be getting more common. There's a new Tori Amos single out now, and it has this 11 minute BT remix on it which is absolutely stormin' deep House/Techno. It uses about half of Tori's vocals and little else from the original, which is a typical plaintive Tori acoustic excrement. Something is definitely happening out there. I was in this Tower Records here in L.A. and looking at the Top 25 Singles rack, saw Billie Ray Martin and Everything But The Girl (with their Todd Terry and Deep Dish remixes) at #2 and #4. It's a shame there has to be vocals to get Techno/House tracks into the American public consciousness, but there ya go. Even Ruby (Leslie Rankine) has some Techno/Trip-Hop remixes, which one would never suspect from a quick scan through her album (which is good if you like that sort of thing she does, but I'm not into it). There was even listenable stuff in the CD listening booths. Among others I sampled were: Money Mark's US domestic release (not my taste); William Orbit's Strange Cargo "Hinterland" (fantastic stuff, but they were out of copies!), Underworld's "Second Toughest In The Infants" (good in places, but I can do without the vocals), Lida Husik's new Husikesque album (also really cool in places), and Killing Joke's "Democracy" (wherein they completely backpedal away from the cool Techno excursions Youth brought with him last outing, much to my disappointment - it's a great KJ album if it were 1983 again). (So what'd I buy? Nothing! I found a Paperclip People CD single for $0.99!) - Greg

They also did another remix of it on the Hyperballad single itself, This too is a wonderful mix, rolls along with a mellow bassline and some dubby feel with soft metallic clanking sounds for the snare rhythm, bit like some of the sounds used on Subtropic's "Homebrew". Probably the best mix in an excellent package which also includes mixes from Mark Bell, Todd Terry, Howie B, David Morales, if you are prepared to buy 2 or 3 formats in order to gather them all. I was not that impressd with the remixes of hyperballad. I envisaged powerful, beautiful and swirling remixes which picked up on the highly emotive origional, yet we got some stompy four on the floor stuff which is less than inspiring... Confusingly, this one is by The Outcasts, who have a recent 12" on Immortal (when do I get more Sawtooth anyway?). Not to be confused with the Hannant project or Talvin Singh's Outcaste label. Apparently it's hip to be disenfranchised these days! eric

Even more confusingly, there is an Outcast (B.Hannant/R.Brown) remix of Hyperballad on one of the Hyperballad EPs. In my opinion it's awesome, so I'll be keeping an eye open for their other releases. Ewan.
