Orbital just made a short live broadcast from their studio on national UK radio as part of an internet technology special on Radio 1. They played two songs. The first was a new, fairly slow, track in the classic Orbital style. The second was a reworking of Sad But True featuring excerpts from a crass John Major speech on New Age Travellers. Good to see they took the opportunity to make a political point.

did orbital actually _employ_ "internet technology" in this broadcast? or was it a live remote? if they did, what exactly does internet technology constitute, a CU-SeeMe/mobne broadcast or what? wallace winfrey /\_a new consciousness_/\ wally@hyperreal.com ambience every saturday 11-1pm CST wally@nicar.org KCOU 88.1 Columbia, MO

The speech was surely doctored for the benefit of this track!? If not he's even more in need of a total lobotomy than I thought! The overall result is highly amusing as well as "sad but true". If anyone has this I'd love to get a copy on cassette. I don't have the equipment, software or disk space to download etc. niemitz@cats.ucsc.edu

I tried to connect to the download site for about an hour with no luck. By the time that I'll be able to try again, the 24 time-limit will be up. Did any one here have any luck? If you did: was it really stereo 44.1Khz by 16 bit?

The very same goes from me to. I'd would LOVE to have the tracks on a cassette, maybe I have the equipment and software at school, but I don't have the knowledge or the disk space neeeded. oeyegg@james.avh.unit.no

It was broadcast via ISDN, so I guess it was internet in the wider sense of the word. Exactly the same sort of thing FSOL have been doing. The studio link-up was part of a program covering various social and technical aspects of the internet and computer techonology in general. James wrote:

I guess it was excerpts from a real speech. Wouldn't really be 'sad but true' if they had doctored it :) Major is perfectly capable of spouting such shite. OnNow: APL - Synaesthetic (Why haven't I played this more....?) Jon.

cos it's mostly crap? i dunno, i have been impressed enough with other Beyond Records stuff to buy it without hearing it. i found this one for $10 but i still feel a little cheated. "the calling" is awesome but not much else is. ok, if pressed i will admit liking the first and last tracks, and "bathdub". i'll keep it for those... I have to agree. What is it with APL? Normally I'm a big fan of filter sweeps, but this record...Strange that a record that has so much in common with records I like just seems to suck all over. All APL seems to be so...cheesy. Cameron On Tue, 28 Mar 1995, Jon Drukman wrote:
