Caroline is still denying that there will be a domestic release of ISDN. They say that's all she wrote. However, my rep told me that FSOL is releasing *another* limited edition CD, and Astralwerks will be bringing it in to the US as well. I don't know when, but I'll get some when they surface (I'll have to get more copies that I got of ISDN, that's for sure). Dave

BTW, I didn't mean that to sound like I don't believe them. I only wrote that because several people have been asking me about a supposed domestic release, and I don't think it's going to happen. I know Astralwerks is on this list, so I suppose they can set the record straight. I keep forgetting that. Dave

Astralwerks did post to this list about ISDN. They said that they were importing 10K copies of ISDN into the US. A first batch was sent out, basically the UK release 'as is' to mom'n'pop stores (their phrase). Then a week or so later, they were repackaged for shipment to mass marketers. I got mine from my friend's store (the Record Collector in Iowa City), a few days after their arrival from the UK , apparently. It is only natural that there be spot shortages and gluts on this item; there's no easy way to predict where in the US all the FSOL fans reside. I suspect that the 'limited edition' stuff is a dodge. First Virgin said that it was limited to 10K copies, then they apparently released 10K copies in the UK, and sent an additional 10K copies to the US. I suspect they may continue to manufacture small batches of them until they think they won't sell any more. The 'limited edition' tag may mostly be trainspotter bait. The lengths record companies won't go to ... I have a two CD set by Dinosaur Jr: "Out There" The first disk came with a 'LIMITED EDITION' tag, complete with serial #, in a 2CD brilliant box. Instead of a second disk, there was a cardboard disk labeled 'place disk 2 here'. Then the second disk came out under separate cover, and it came with a set of 4 stickers for you to put on your lunchbox. So I guess I am a trainspotter ... it's just like my kid wanting to buy dozens of boxes of breakfast cereal in order to collect all 4 of the plastic toys ... -- Kent Williams kent@cadsi.com "Swirling a sound [in Quadrophonic Space] at an audio rate produces interesting spatial and modulative effects" -- Serge Modular Product Spec Sheet.
