While we've been on the subject of ISDN, I got to thinking about limited
editions. It seems to me that they are the perfect thing for a band like
FSOL. I could have the stats all wrong, but I suspect that FSOL probably
wouldn't sell much more than 10,000 copies of a release (anyone got the
skinny on this and want to make me eat my words?), so releasing it as a
limited edition ensures that all 10,000 are sold *right away*, rather than
over a long period of time.
Many of us wouldn't bother to pick up the latest <your name here> release,
preferring to wait until we see what others think of it, or happen to
chance upon it second-hand. But if it's limited, we *have* but it right
away, win or lose. And we know we can sell it if we don't like it, to some
poor schlock who didn't get one the first time out.
What do people think about this? I know this isn't IDM per se, so feel
free to tell where to take it.

P.S. What I can't figure out is why a Tori Amos or a Pearl Jam would do a
limited edition anything. They could certainly sell more...
