Beaumont Hannant sounds quite different from the Aphex Twin. His
stuff is very varied. From dark ambient to experimental hardcore. He
uses all kinds of sounds, including some 'real-instrument' sounds
like (bass)guitars and accoustic drums. A lot of his songs also have
a 'live-played' feel to it. I guess he's a good technician as well as
a good musician as well as a good composer.
To get a good impression you'll just have to listen to his records:

I heard the songs on these records aren't even Hannant's best because
of some trouble with GPR. (?)

Very true. Just listen to Hannant.
Unfortunatly most guitar-players like to do boring things with their
instruments. One of the few 'rock'bands i still like are Sonic Youth.
